Which Nissan you drive — and which key it uses — decides whether you need a battery, a spare or a full all-keys-lost. Here is how the range breaks down:
The Nissan Intelligent Key (I-Key)
- The proximity smart fob fitted to the Qashqai, Juke, X-Trail and Leaf: keep it in your pocket, unlock by touching the door handle, and start with a button.
- “I-Key not detected”: most often a dead CR2032 fob battery — you can usually still start by holding the fob against the start button. If a fresh battery does not fix it, the fob itself or the body control module (BCM) may be at fault.
Blade, remote & the Micra oddity
- Blade: the NSN14 profile is used across most of the range.
- Micra: the K12 (2003–2010) used a card-style key, while the K13 and K14 moved to a conventional remote key [verify against your VIN].
- The Note and older models use a bladed remote with a transponder chip.
Immobiliser & all-keys-lost
- NATS: the Nissan Anti-Theft System governs starting, so every new key has to be coded to the car’s BCM.
- All-keys-lost: needs the BCM PIN before a fresh key or Intelligent Key can be programmed — the specialist Nissan job.
- Nissan and Renault share platforms under the Alliance, so the same immobiliser know-how also spans the Alliance vans.
