Resolving Nissan Ignition Issues: A Nissan Qashqai Case Study

Reported Issue
Our customer called about issues starting her Qashqai. Although turning the key was easy, removing it proved difficult.
First Impressions
This is a quite a common problem with Nissan ignitions - it usually means that the ignition gate needs replacing.
How We Reacted
When we received her emergency call, our team quickly arranged to help with the issue. We understand how inconvenient and frustrating problems like this are, especially in the middle of a busy day. Our aim is to help as quickly as possible with our reliable mobile service. When we arrived at the customer’s location, we thoroughly inspected the car’s ignition mechanism. It became clear that the issue was within the ignition gate, which made sense because it’s vital component responsible for being able to removal the key smoothly.
The Outcome
We quickly and precisely were able to supply and fit a new ignition gate part. The work was carried out the on the same day, onsite, meaning that the car did not have to be towed to a garage.
Our goal isn’t just to resolve our customer’s issues, but to ensure that they can resume their journeys with confidence and peace of mind, knowing that all work is fully guaranteed by a local reputable Auto Locksmith company.
After we’d replaced the part, we were able to easily extract the key from the ignition, meaning the customer’s Nissan Qashqai was working and she could get back on the road.
This example shows our dedication to our customers. We always aim to help promptly and efficiently so that each one is happy.
The Key System Behind the Fault
Many bladed-key Nissan Qashqai models — chiefly the first-generation J10 (2007–2013) and lower-trim second-generation J11 (2014–2021) — use an NSN14 blade with a Nissan NATS transponder that turns in a mechanical ignition barrel, known as the gate. Over years of use the wafers and springs inside that gate wear, so the key turns and starts the car easily but binds and jams on the way out. Crucially, that is a mechanical wear fault in the barrel, not a fault with the key or its chip — which is why fitting a new ignition gate cured it and the customer kept her original key. (Higher-trim Qashqai models with keyless entry and a start button use a different smart-key system and do not have this gate.)
