Lost your Nissan Micra key — or that flat Intelligent Key card? The Micra is one of Bristol’s most popular small cars and a favourite first and second car, but its key system has changed dramatically across the generations — and the wrong assumption about which key yours uses wastes everyone’s time.
A main dealer will want the car brought in, an appointment days away, and a bill stacking the key or card, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot programme it: every Micra since the K12 runs Nissan’s NATS immobiliser, so an uncoded key or card opens the door but never starts the engine.
Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith with the dealer-level Nissan software and the right blanks — key, flip or Intelligent Key card — for your exact Micra. We come to you, cut and code the key on-site, and get you moving — no towing, no dealer wait. Every Micra key replacement is guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Nissan Micra Keys: Types & What You Need
The Micra is the one Nissan where the generation completely changes the job — from a flat Intelligent Key card to a Renault-based flip key. Tell us the year and we bring exactly the right part and software:
Micra K12 (2003–2010)
- The famous one: the K12 introduced the Nissan Intelligent Key as a flat, rectangular card you slot into a dashboard reader (an early keyless system) on higher trims, alongside a conventional bladed transponder key on base cars.
- Immobiliser: NATS with a transponder (Hitag2-era).
Micra K13 (2010–2017)
- Key: reverted to a conventional bladed remote / flip key with a transponder on most trims; an Intelligent Key smart fob offered on higher-spec cars.
- Blade: NSN14-era Nissan blade.
Micra K14 (2017–present)
- Platform: built on the Renault Clio (CMF-B) platform, so the key is Renault-based underneath — flip / remote key or Intelligent Key proximity depending on trim, on a newer AES-era system.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable with the right software across all three generations.
Note: the K12 card-vs-key split, and the K14’s Renault-based system, vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. The K12 card in particular is a distinct part — tell us your reg and we will confirm card-vs-key before we travel.

Depending on the generation and trim, the Nissan Micra is fitted with the bladed transponder key, flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Nissan Micra Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My old Nissan Micra uses a card, not a key — can you replace it?
Yes. The K12 Micra (2003–2010) used the Nissan Intelligent Key as a flat card that slots into a dashboard reader. It is a distinct part from a normal key, and we carry the blanks and dealer-level software to programme one to your car at the roadside. Tell us your reg and we will confirm whether yours is a card or a bladed key.
Can you programme a Micra key without going to Nissan?
Yes. We cut and code Micra keys at the roadside for the K12, K13 and K14 — card, flip key or Intelligent Key — using dealer-level software, including all-keys-lost, with no recovery to a dealer. See our Nissan key programming service.
My newer Micra key is the same as a Renault — does that help?
It does. The K14 Micra (2017-on) is built on the Renault Clio platform, so its key is Renault-based underneath and we bring the same tooling we use for our Renault work. Just confirm the year, because the earlier K12 and K13 use different Nissan systems. It shares this platform with the current Nissan Juke.
I’ve lost every key to my Micra — can you still help?
Yes. All-keys-lost is a common Micra job whichever generation you have. We generate and code a fresh key or card to your immobiliser at the roadside, so you are not paying for recovery. See our lost car keys service.
My Micra key still turns but the remote does nothing — is it broken?
Usually not. On the K13 and K14 this is almost always a flat CR2032 battery or a worn micro-switch in the remote, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key. If a flip blade is worn, we can re-cut or re-shell it.
