Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Peugeot 308
A dead or damaged Peugeot 308 key leaves you going nowhere. Whether the flip blade has finally given up, a key has been lost, or the last one was stolen, an immobilised 308 is a car you cannot start and cannot afford to be without.
The dealer route means recovering the 308, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot rescue you either — the 308 runs a BSI-managed Hitag2/AES immobiliser, so an uncoded key will open the door but never crank the engine. You need someone who actually knows the 308 key system generation by generation.
That is Lock City. We are a mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct Hitag2 / AES transponders and the VA2 and HU83 blanks your 308 needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every 308 key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Peugeot 308 Keys: Types & What You Need
The 308 has run through three distinct key systems. Telling us the generation (or your reg) means we arrive with exactly the right blank, chip and software:
308 Gen 1 (T7, 2007–2013)
- Blade: VA2 external-cut blade.
- Transponder: Hitag2 (ID46) — OBD-programmable at the roadside.
- Remote: two- or three-button flip remote, or a plain transponder key on base cars.
308 Gen 2 (T9, 2013–2021)
- Blade / key: flip (switchblade) key on the VA2 profile, moving toward HU83 on later builds; Hitag2, with keyless proximity offered on higher trims (Allure, GT).
- The classic Peugeot job: the flip-switch spring fails and the blade will not stay out or fold in. We re-shell the key and transfer the electronics rather than sell you a whole new key.
308 Gen 3 (P51, 2021–present, EMP2)
- Blade: HU83 high-security laser blade.
- Key: keyless proximity entry with the i-Cockpit cabin common across the range, using a secure Hitag AES chip; plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions share the same key.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable with current software.
Note: the VA2-to-HU83 change on Gen 2 and keyless availability by trim vary with build date [verify against your VIN]. Give us your reg and we will confirm the exact key before we set off.

Spare keyWhich key does a Peugeot 308 use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Peugeot 308 is fitted with the flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

- Smart proximity (keyless) key
Peugeot 308 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Why does my Peugeot 308 flip key keep failing?
It is a common 308 fault. The flip (switchblade) key has a small spring and micro-switches that wear out, so the blade stops springing out or the buttons stop working. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade — much cheaper than a brand-new coded key.
Can you replace a 308 key without going to a Peugeot dealer?
Yes. We cut and programme 308 keys at the roadside for all three generations using dealer-level software. There is no need to recover the car or book into a dealer. See our Peugeot key programming service.
My 308 has an older external-cut key — can you copy it?
That is the VA2 blade used on the Gen 1 and early Gen 2 308. Yes, we can cut and, because a transponder is fitted, programme it. Tell us the year and we will confirm whether yours is a VA2 or the later HU83 high-security key before we come out.
I’ve lost all the keys to my 308 — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we read the BSI, generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside, so the 308 starts before we leave. More detail on our lost car keys page.
Does a keyless Gen 3 308 cost more to replace?
Generally yes. A keyless 308 uses a secure Hitag AES smart fob, which is a more expensive part than a standard flip key and takes longer to programme. We carry both types, so whichever 308 you have, we can sort it in one visit.
