The 2008’s key system changed sharply with the current model, so the generation matters a lot for both cost and security advice:
2008 Gen 1 (A94, 2013–2019)
- Blade: VA2 external-cut blade.
- Key: two- or three-button flip (switchblade) remote with a Hitag2 (ID46) transponder — OBD-programmable at the roadside.
- All-keys-lost: the BSI PIN is generally readable by OBD, so AKL is done on-site.
2008 Gen 2 (P24, 2019–present, CMP platform)
- Blade: HU83 high-security laser blade (folding, inside the fob).
- Key: keyless proximity entry with the i-Cockpit cabin is common and standard on higher trims (Allure, GT), using a secure Hitag AES chip.
- e-2008: the all-electric e-2008 uses the same smart-key architecture as the petrol and diesel cars.
- Security: the keyless system is a relay-theft target. We recommend a Faraday pouch, keeping the spare well away from the front door, and re-coding after any theft so the old fob is dead.
