Regain Entry Into Your Audi Q2

Lost your Audi Q2 key or keyless fob? The Q2 is a modern, MQB-platform crossover — which is exactly why the old “pop to a key cutter” fix does not apply. It is component-protected, so a replacement key has to be authorised against Audi’s immobiliser data, not just cut to shape.

A dealer will typically want the car recovered, a booking that could be days out, and a bill covering the fob, the coding and the transport. A general locksmith usually cannot touch it: the Q2’s component protection means all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data and the correct MQB blanks, which most do not carry.

Lock City keeps its VAG software and stock up to date specifically for MQB cars like the Q2. We come to you, supply the right flip key or Advanced Key, and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait, fully guaranteed. Book Q2 key programming or a replacement key on 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.

Know Your Key

Audi Q2 Keys: Types & What You Need

The Q2 launched in 2016 as a purely MQB-era Audi, so its key system is entirely modern — which is exactly why up-to-date software and immobiliser data matter more here than on an older Audi:

Q2 (2016–present)

  • Platform: MQB with component protection (IMMO5).
  • Blade: high-security HU162T on many builds (a hidden emergency blade sits inside the fob).
  • Key: flip (switchblade) remote as standard; “Audi Advanced Key” keyless proximity offered on higher trims and the SQ2.
  • Transponder: secure MEGAMOS AES / component-protected immobiliser.
  • All-keys-lost: needs dealer-level immobiliser/component-security data — doable, but a specialist job, not a quick copy.

What we see most on the Q2

  • One-key households: many Q2s were sold with a single fob, so a lost key is instantly an all-keys-lost.
  • Flat fob batteries mistaken for a failed key — often just a CR2032 swap plus the emergency-start procedure.

Note: exact chip revisions and Advanced Key availability vary by build date and trim [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the software and blank needed before we set off.

Audi Q2 FAQs

Audi Q2 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

Can you really programme a new Audi Q2 key — it’s a modern car?

Yes. We keep our VAG software, immobiliser data and MQB key stock current specifically for cars like the Q2. We can code flip keys and Audi Advanced Keys to a Q2 at the roadside, including all-keys-lost using component-security data.

My Q2 came with only one key — should I get a spare?

Strongly recommended. Many Q2s were delivered with a single fob, which means losing it turns a simple spare-cut into a costlier all-keys-lost job. A programmed spare now is cheaper and saves you being stranded later. See our spare key service.

My Q2 won’t detect the key — is the fob dead?

Often it is just a flat CR2032 battery in the fob. You can usually still start the car using the marked spot and the start button, and get in with the hidden emergency blade. If a new battery does not fix it, we can test and, if needed, replace the fob.

Why is a component-protected Q2 key dearer than an older Audi key?

Because MQB component protection means the new key must be authorised against Audi’s immobiliser data, not simply cut and OBD-flashed. That needs dealer-level tooling and takes longer. Send us your registration and we will confirm the exact cost before we travel.

Is the keyless Q2 at risk of relay theft?

Like any keyless car, yes — so keep the Advanced Key in a Faraday pouch and the spare away from the front of the house. If a keyless fob is lost or stolen, we can programme a new one and disable the old. See our Audi Q3 key replacement page if you run the larger SUV too.
