Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Audi A5
A dead, lost or stolen Audi A5 key stops a premium car dead in its tracks. Whether it is the coupe, the Sportback or the cabriolet, an immobilised A5 is a car you cannot start — and being without it means reorganising your whole week around a dealer’s timetable.
The dealer route means recovering the A5, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot rescue you either — the A5 runs Audi’s immobiliser, so an uncoded key will open the door but never crank the engine. On the current A5 there is an extra layer: component protection means all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data.
That is where Lock City comes in. We are a VAG-experienced mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct chips and the HU66 blanks your A5 needs. We come to you, cut and code the key to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every A5 key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Audi A5 Keys: Types & What You Need
The A5 has run through two generations with different security, so telling us the year (or your reg) means we arrive with exactly the right blank, chip and software:
A5 8T / 8F — first generation (2007–2016)
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade.
- Platform: pre-MQB (shares the B8 A4’s architecture); Megamos / Hitag2 (ID48) transponder.
- Remote: flip (switchblade) remote key; “Audi Advanced Key” keyless proximity offered on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: largely OBD-programmable at the roadside on the flip-key cars.
A5 F5 — second generation (2016–present)
- Security: component protection (IMMO5-generation) — a fresh key must be authorised against Audi immobiliser data.
- Blade: high-security profile; Advanced Key keyless proximity common.
- All-keys-lost: needs dealer-level immobiliser/component-security data — a specialist job we can do, not a quick copy.
Note: the exact point at which component protection makes A5 all-keys-lost a dealer-level job varies by build date and trim [verify against your VIN]. Give us your reg and we will confirm the key type and what the job needs before we set off.
The Audi A5 at a glance
The A5 (F5, 2016 on) shares the A4’s MLB platform and key hardware, but it is the two-door Coupé, the five-door Sportback and the Cabriolet — plus S5 and RS5 — that set it apart from the saloon. The Cabriolet in particular changes how a lost-key car has to be secured.
- Keyless: Advanced Key common; HU66 blade with Megamos AES [verify against your VIN].
- Tell us Coupé, Sportback or Cabriolet — the body affects access and, on the soft-top, security advice.
The A5 scenarios we see
A5s come in as Coupés, Sportbacks and Cabriolets — the soft-top especially, where a key lost with the roof down needs the car secured quickly. S5 and RS5 owners tend to want a matched spare rather than an emergency cut.
- Cabriolet key lost roof-down in a car park.
- Sportback daily needing a keyless backup.
- RS5 owner wanting a matched spare.

Which key does an Audi A5 use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Audi A5 is fitted with the flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

- Smart proximity (keyless) key
Audi A5 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Can you replace an Audi A5 key without going to a dealer?
In most cases, yes. First-generation A5s (2007–2016) are largely programmed at the roadside by OBD. The current A5 uses component protection, so all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data — which we carry, so we can still usually come to you. See our Audi key programming service.
My A5 has keyless Advanced Key — can you make a new one?
Yes. The Audi Advanced Key is a keyless proximity fob, and we carry the blanks and current software to code one to your A5. We handle keyless all-keys-lost as well as spares.
How much does an A5 key cost to replace?
It depends on generation and key type: a first-generation flip key is the cheaper tier, while a component-protected car or a keyless Advanced Key — and any all-keys-lost — costs more. Send us your registration and we will confirm the exact price before we travel.
My A5 flip key won’t spring out properly — can you fix it?
Yes. Worn flip-key springs and micro-switches are a common VAG fault. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade rather than sell you a whole new coded key.
I’ve lost all the keys to my A5 — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: on the older car we code a fresh key by OBD; on the component-protected car we use dealer-level immobiliser data to marry a new key to the immobiliser. More detail on our lost car keys page.
