The A6 spans a long run of generations, and its security stepped up sharply over time, so the year matters a lot for both cost and what the job involves:
A6 C6 (2004–2011)
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade; Megamos / Hitag2 (ID48) transponder.
- Keyless: this era introduced Audi’s “Advanced Key” keyless proximity on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: largely OBD-programmable on the flip-key cars.
A6 C7 (2011–2018) & C8 (2018–present)
- Security: component protection (IMMO5-generation) — a new key must be authorised against Audi immobiliser data.
- Blade: high-security profile on later builds; Advanced Key keyless proximity common to standard.
- All-keys-lost: needs dealer-level immobiliser/component-security data — a specialist job, not a quick copy.
