Lost your Audi Q3 key, or had a keyless Advanced Key stolen? On a family SUV that does the nursery run, the dog walks and the weekend away, being locked out or immobilised grinds the whole household to a halt — and keyless SUVs like the Q3 are a known relay-theft target, so a missing fob is a security problem as well as an access one.
A main dealer will want the Q3 recovered, an appointment days away, and a bill stacking the key, the coding and the transport. A generic locksmith cannot programme it — and on the current MQB Q3, component protection means all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data that most simply do not carry.
Lock City fixes both. As a VAG-experienced mobile locksmith we carry the dealer-level software and correct blanks to code a new Q3 key — flip or Advanced Key — at the roadside. Lost a keyless fob to theft? We can programme a fresh key and disable the missing one so it can no longer start the car. Audi Q3 Keys: Types & What You Need
The Q3’s key system changed sharply between generations, so the year drives both the cost and the security advice:
Q3 8U — first generation (2011–2018)
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade.
- Platform: pre-MQB (PQ35, Tiguan-related); Megamos / Hitag2 (ID48) transponder.
- Remote: flip (switchblade) remote key; Advanced Key keyless on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: largely OBD-programmable at the roadside on flip-key cars.
Q3 F3 — second generation (2018–present)
- Platform: MQB with component protection (IMMO5); high-security HU162T blade.
- Keyless: “Audi Advanced Key” proximity common; includes the RS Q3.
- All-keys-lost: needs dealer-level immobiliser/component-security data — a specialist job, not a quick copy.
- Security: the keyless system is a relay-theft target. We recommend a Faraday pouch, keeping the spare away from the front door, and re-coding after any theft so the old fob is dead.
Note: the pre-MQB / MQB cut-over and Advanced Key availability by trim vary by build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type before we come out.

Which key does an Audi Q3 use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Audi Q3 is fitted with the flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Audi Q3 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Audi Q3 is keyless — can you still make a new key?
Yes. The MQB Q3 uses an Audi Advanced Key proximity fob, and we carry both the blanks and the current software plus immobiliser data to code one to your car at the roadside. We handle keyless all-keys-lost as well as spares.
My keyless Q3 fob was stolen — is the car at risk?
Potentially, yes — a stolen keyless fob can start the car, and keyless SUVs are a relay-theft target. We can programme a new fob and de-register the stolen one so it will no longer unlock or start the Q3. See our stolen car keys service.
Can you programme an older Q3 flip key at the roadside too?
Yes. First-generation 8U Q3s (2011–2018) use an HU66 flip key with a Megamos/Hitag2 chip, which we cut and code on-site by OBD. Whether you have an older flip key or a new Advanced Key, we can sort it in one visit. See our Audi key programming service.
How can I stop my keyless Q3 being stolen?
Keep the Advanced Key in a Faraday (signal-blocking) pouch, store the spare away from doors and windows, and consider an aftermarket immobiliser. After any theft or lost keyless fob, have the key re-coded so the missing one is disabled.
Why is a newer Q3 key dearer than the old one?
Because the current MQB Q3 uses component protection: a new key must be authorised against Audi immobiliser data, which needs dealer-level tooling and takes longer than the older OBD job. Send us your reg and we will confirm the exact price up front.
