Spare & fleet keysRegain Entry Into Your Renault Kangoo
A Renault Kangoo off the road still costs you the job. For couriers, tradespeople and mobile carers the compact Kangoo is a workhorse — so a lost key, a lost hands-free card or a snapped blade stops the round dead.
The dealer route means recovering the Kangoo, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key or card, the coding and the transport. A general locksmith cannot help — the Kangoo runs a Renault Hitag immobiliser and, on card versions, a hands-free system coded to the UCH body computer. Renault card jobs in particular are a recognised specialist niche.
Lock City is a mobile van locksmith with dealer-level Renault software and the correct Hitag keys and cards. We cut and code your Kangoo key or card to the immobiliser at the roadside or your depot — no towing — and every replacement van key job is guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Renault Kangoo Keys: Types & What You Need
The Kangoo runs either a traditional remote key or a Renault hands-free card, depending on generation and trim — which changes the part and the programming:
Kangoo II (2008–2021) & Kangoo III (2021–present)
- Blade: Renault laser blade in a plip remote key on most vans.
- Card option: Renault hands-free key card on card-equipped trims — inserted or fully keyless, coded to the UCH.
- Transponder: Hitag2 on earlier vans, Hitag AES on newer — a secure, non-clone system.
- All-keys-lost: programmable by OBD at the roadside; card AKL may need the security code from the vehicle.
Shared-platform sibling note
The Kangoo is the parent of a family of rebadged vans. The Mercedes Citan and the Nissan Townstar are both built on the Kangoo and use the Renault key and immobiliser system — so a Citan or Townstar key is, underneath the badge, a Renault Kangoo job.
Note: whether your van uses a remote key or a hands-free card, and the Hitag2-to-AES cut-over, vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm key-vs-card before we travel.

Renault Kangoo Van Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Renault Kangoo uses a card, not a key — can you replace it?
Yes. We carry Renault hands-free cards and the dealer-level software to code them to your Kangoo at the roadside, including all-keys-lost. Renault card work is a specialist job and one we do regularly, so tell us your reg and we will confirm whether yours is a card or a remote key.
Is a Nissan Townstar or Mercedes Citan the same as a Kangoo for keys?
Yes. The Nissan Townstar and Mercedes Citan are rebadged Kangoos on the Renault key and immobiliser system, so we bring the same tooling and can programme them the same way.
Can you programme a Kangoo key at the roadside, or must it go to Renault?
At the roadside. We carry dealer-level Renault software and the right Hitag keys and cards, so the vast majority of Kangoos are cut and coded on-site by OBD — including all-keys-lost — with no recovery to a dealer.
Can you come to my depot to key a fleet of Kangoos?
Yes. We attend yards, depots and sites to cut and programme spare or replacement keys and cards across multiple vans in one visit. See our replacement van keys service.
I’ve lost every key and card to my Kangoo — can you still help?
Yes. All-keys-lost is a common Kangoo job. We generate and code a fresh key or card to your immobiliser at the roadside, drawing the security code from the vehicle where needed. See our lost keys service.
