Spare & fleet keysRegain Entry Into Your Renault Master
A Renault Master stranded is a big problem — whether it is a Luton for the trade or the base of a coachbuilt motorhome. The Master is one of Britain’s most common large-van and motorhome bases, so a lost, stolen or snapped key can halt a delivery run or a holiday miles from home.
The dealer route is the worst option for a working or leisure vehicle: recovery of a bulky van or motorhome to the branch, a long wait for an appointment, and a bill stacking the key, the coding and the transport. A general locksmith cannot programme it — the Master runs a Renault Hitag immobiliser — and its deadlocks make forced entry deliberately hard, so you need make-specific expertise.
Lock City comes to your site, home, campsite or the roadside with dealer-level Renault software and the correct Hitag keys. We handle deadlock entry, cut and code the key to your immobiliser on-site, and get you moving — no towing. Renault Master Keys: Types & What You Need
The Master is a large van with a long production life, so the generation drives the key, chip and access approach:
Master (2010–present)
- Blade: Renault laser blade integrated into a flip / fixed remote key.
- Transponder: Hitag2 / Hitag AES depending on build year — programmed to the UCH body computer.
- Deadlocks: factory or aftermarket deadlocks are common on Masters (anti-theft on high-value loads), which complicates access after a break-in — we use non-destructive entry.
- Motorhome bases: many coachbuilt and Luton conversions sit on the Master; the cab key system is standard Renault regardless of the habitation build.
- All-keys-lost: programmable by OBD at the roadside; AKL may need the security code from the vehicle.
Shared-platform sibling note
The Master shares its key and immobiliser system with the Vauxhall Movano (and the Nissan Interstar), which are the same Renault-built large van under different badges. If your Movano or Interstar needs a key, it is the same Hitag job.
Note: the Hitag2-to-AES cut-over and whether AKL needs a security code vary by build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg (and whether it is a motorhome base) and we will confirm the key and access plan.

Renault Master Van Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Can you replace a key for a motorhome built on a Renault Master?
Yes. Coachbuilt and Luton motorhomes on the Master use the standard Renault cab key and Hitag immobiliser, which we cut and programme at the roadside or campsite — no need to recover a bulky motorhome to a dealer. See our van locksmith solutions.
My Master has deadlocks — can you still get in after a break-in?
Yes. Deadlocks make forced entry deliberately hard, which is the point of fitting them — but we use non-destructive methods to gain entry and can then cut and code a new key. If it was broken into, see our broken key and stolen keys services too.
Is a Renault Master the same as a Vauxhall Movano for keys?
Effectively, yes. The Vauxhall Movano and Nissan Interstar are the same Renault-built large van, so they share the Master’s Hitag key system and we bring the same tooling.
Can you come to my depot to key a fleet of Masters?
Yes. We attend depots, yards and sites to cut and programme spare or replacement keys across multiple large vans in one visit. See our replacement van keys service.
I’ve lost all the keys to my Master — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside, drawing the security code from the vehicle where needed. More on our lost keys page.
