Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Renault Captur
Lost your Renault Captur key, or had a hands-free keycard stolen? On a compact SUV that does the nursery run, the shopping and the weekend away, being locked out or immobilised is more than an inconvenience — it grinds the whole household to a halt.
A main dealer will want the Captur recovered, an appointment you may wait days for, and a bill that stacks the key or keycard, the coding and the transport together. A generic locksmith cannot programme it at all — the Captur’s immobiliser (UCH) needs the security PIN and the right software, and on keyless SUVs a stolen keycard is a security problem, not just an access one.
Lock City fixes both. As a mobile Renault specialist we carry the dealer-level software and the correct keycard blanks to code a new Captur key — bladed, flip or hands-free — to your immobiliser at the roadside. Lost a keycard to theft? We can programme a fresh one and disable the missing card so it can no longer start the car. Renault Captur Keys: Types & What You Need
The Captur’s key system changed sharply with the current model, so the generation matters a lot for both cost and security advice:
Captur I (2013–2019)
- Key: bladed flip remote on entry trims; hands-free keycard on Dynamique S and above.
- Blade: VAC102 profile, or the emergency blade hidden inside the keycard.
- Transponder: Hitag2 (ID46) moving to Hitag AES on later cars.
- All-keys-lost: coded to the UCH with the security PIN at the roadside.
Captur II (2019–present)
- Key: hands-free keycard / keyless smart entry common across the range.
- Transponder: Hitag AES (secure) — needs current software and the correct card blank.
- Security: as a keyless SUV, the keycard system can be a relay-theft target. We recommend a signal-blocking (Faraday) pouch and re-coding after any theft so the old card is dead.
The Captur keycard jobs we see most
- “Keycard not recognised”: commonly a flat card battery, a worn card or a card that needs re-syncing to the car — not always a new card.
- Immobiliser de-sync after a flat 12V battery, where the dash reads the card but will not start.
Note: keycard-vs-bladed availability on Captur I trims varies by spec [verify against your VIN]. Our Renault keycard not recognised case study shows how we diagnose these — or send us your reg and we will confirm the key type first.

Renault Captur Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Renault Captur is keyless — can you still make a new keycard?
Yes. The Captur II uses a hands-free keycard with a secure Hitag AES chip, and we carry both the card blanks and the current software to programme one to your car at the roadside, including keyless all-keys-lost.
My Captur keycard was stolen — is the car at risk?
Potentially, yes — a stolen keycard can unlock and start the car, and keyless SUVs are a relay-theft target. We can programme a new keycard and de-register the stolen one so it will no longer work. See our stolen car keys service.
My Captur keycard is not being recognised — do I need a new one?
Often not. It is usually a flat card battery, a worn card or a card that has lost sync with the car. We can test and, where needed, replace the battery or re-sync the card — much cheaper than a new keycard. See our Renault keycard case study.
Can you programme an older bladed Captur key at the roadside too?
Yes. Captur I entry cars use a bladed flip remote with a Hitag2 or AES chip, which we cut and code on-site by calculating the security PIN. Whether you have an older flip key or a new keycard, we can sort it in a single visit.
How do I stop my keyless Captur being stolen?
Keep the keycard in a Faraday (signal-blocking) pouch, store the spare away from doors and windows, and consider an aftermarket immobiliser. After any theft or lost card, have the key re-coded so the missing one is disabled.
