The 5008 changed from a compact MPV to a seven-seat SUV between its generations, and the key system stepped up with it — so the generation drives both cost and security advice:
5008 Gen 1 (T87, 2009–2016)
- Blade: VA2 external-cut blade.
- Key: two- or three-button flip (switchblade) remote with a Hitag2 (ID46) transponder — OBD-programmable at the roadside.
- All-keys-lost: the BSI PIN is generally readable by OBD, so AKL is done on-site.
5008 Gen 2 (P87, 2017–present, EMP2 platform)
- Blade: HU83 high-security laser blade.
- Key: keyless proximity entry with the i-Cockpit cabin, common and standard on higher trims (Allure, GT), using a secure Hitag AES fob.
- Shared platform: the Gen 2 5008 shares the EMP2 architecture and smart-key system with its sister SUV, the 3008.
- Security: as a keyless family SUV it is a theft target — a Faraday pouch, disciplined spare-key storage and re-coding after any theft all matter.
