Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Audi TT
A dead, lost or stolen Audi TT key stops a sports car dead. Whether it is the coupe or the roadster, an immobilised TT is a car you cannot start — and because it is a lower-volume model, the “pop to a key cutter” fix simply does not apply.
The dealer route means recovering the TT, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot help either — the TT runs Audi’s immobiliser, so an uncoded key will open the door but never crank the engine. On the Mk3 TT, component protection means all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data.
That is where Lock City comes in. We are a VAG-experienced mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct chips and the HU66 blanks your TT needs. We come to you, cut and code the key to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every TT key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Audi TT Keys: Types & What You Need
The TT ran through three generations with very different security, so telling us the year (or your reg) means we arrive with exactly the right blank, chip and software:
TT Mk1 8N (1998–2006)
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade; earlier Megamos crypto transponder.
- Remote: remote-head or separate remote plus transponder key; OBD-programmable.
TT Mk2 8J (2006–2014)
- Platform: pre-MQB; Megamos / Hitag2 (ID48) transponder.
- Remote: flip (switchblade) remote key; largely OBD-programmable at the roadside.
TT Mk3 8S (2014–2023)
- Platform: MQB with component protection (IMMO5); high-security blade.
- Keyless: “Audi Advanced Key” proximity offered on higher trims (and the TTS / TT RS).
- All-keys-lost: needs dealer-level immobiliser/component-security data — a specialist job, not a quick copy.
Note: the Mk2 / Mk3 cut-over to MQB component protection, and Advanced Key availability by trim, vary by build date [verify against your VIN]. Give us your reg and we will confirm the key type before we set off.

Audi TT Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Can you replace an Audi TT key without going to a dealer?
In most cases, yes. Mk1 and Mk2 TTs (1998–2014) are largely programmed at the roadside by OBD. The Mk3 uses component protection, so all-keys-lost needs dealer-level immobiliser data — which we carry, so we can still usually come to you. See our Audi key programming service.
My TT flip key won’t spring out properly — can you fix it?
Yes. Worn flip-key springs and micro-switches are a common VAG fault on the Mk2 TT. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade rather than sell you a whole new coded key.
My Mk3 TT has a keyless proximity key — can you make a new one?
Yes. The Mk3 TT can be fitted with Audi Advanced Key, a keyless proximity fob. We carry the blanks and current software plus immobiliser data to code one to your car, including keyless all-keys-lost.
How much does an Audi TT key cost to replace?
It depends on generation and key type: an older Mk1/Mk2 flip key is the cheaper tier, while a component-protected Mk3 or a keyless Advanced Key — and any all-keys-lost — costs more. Send us your registration and we will confirm the exact price before we travel.
I’ve lost all the keys to my TT — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: on the older car we code a fresh key by OBD; on the component-protected Mk3 we use dealer-level immobiliser data to marry a new key to the immobiliser. See our lost car keys page.
