Spare & fleet keysRegain Entry Into Your Vauxhall Vivaro
A Vauxhall Vivaro off the road is money walking out the door. For a sole trader or a fleet the Vivaro is the business — so a lost, stolen or snapped key does not just cost a key, it costs the job, the delivery and the day’s work.
The dealer route is the worst of all worlds for a working van: recovery to the branch, an appointment that suits them not you, and a bill that stacks the key, the coding and the transport on top of each other while your Vivaro sits idle. A general locksmith cannot programme it either — the Vivaro runs an encrypted immobiliser, so an uncoded key will open the door but never start the engine. And with the Vivaro there is an extra twist: the key system changed completely in 2019, so you need someone who knows both platforms.
Lock City is a mobile van locksmith that comes to your yard, depot or the roadside with the right software and blanks for your exact Vivaro. We cut the blade, code the key to your immobiliser on-site and get you moving — no towing, no dealer wait. We also supply fleet and spare van keys so a single failure never takes a van off the road. Vauxhall Vivaro Keys: Types & What You Need
The single most important question for a Vivaro is: what year is it? In 2019 Vauxhall moved the Vivaro onto an entirely different platform, which means the blade, the chip and the tooling all change. Tell us the year (or your reg) and we arrive with exactly the right kit.
Vivaro pre-2019 (2001–2019) — Renault Trafic platform
- Underneath: the earlier Vivaro is built on the Renault Trafic and is mechanically the same van as the Nissan Primastar — so it uses the Renault–Nissan key system, not a Vauxhall one.
- Key: Renault-style blade and remote with a Hitag (ID46) transponder; later cars use the more secure Hitag AES chip [verify against your VIN].
- All-keys-lost: programmed via the security PIN — a Renault-Nissan job, which is why a generic Vauxhall approach fails here.
Vivaro 2019-on (Vivaro C) — Peugeot Expert / Stellantis platform
- Underneath: the current Vivaro is built on the Stellantis EMP2 platform — mechanically the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Dispatch and Toyota Proace — so it uses their HU83 / VA2 key system.
- Key: HU83 high-security blade with a Hitag2 / AES transponder; keyless proximity entry on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable by OBD with current Stellantis software.
Bottom line: a “Vauxhall Vivaro key” does not exist as one thing — a pre-2019 van needs a Renault-Nissan key and a 2019-on van needs a Stellantis key. Give us the reg or the year and we will confirm the exact key, chip and price before we set off. Not sure whether you have a Vivaro or a Renault Trafic key system? We will tell you.

Vauxhall Vivaro Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
How do I know which Vauxhall Vivaro key I need — pre-2019 or 2019-on?
It comes down to the year. A Vivaro registered up to 2019 is built on the Renault Trafic and uses a Renault-Nissan (Hitag) key; a 2019-onwards Vivaro C is built on the Peugeot Expert / Stellantis platform and uses an HU83 key. Give us your registration and we will confirm which one you have before we travel. See our replacement van keys service.
Is a Vivaro key the same as a Renault Trafic key?
For a pre-2019 Vivaro, yes — mechanically it is the Trafic (and the Nissan Primastar), so it shares that Renault-Nissan key system. A 2019-on Vivaro is different: it shares its key system with the Peugeot Expert instead. That switch in 2019 is exactly why the year matters so much. See our Renault Trafic page.
Can you come to my yard or depot to key a fleet of Vivaros?
Yes. We regularly attend yards, depots and sites to cut and programme spare or replacement keys across multiple vans in one visit — mixed pre- and post-2019 fleets included. It is the cheapest way to make sure no single lost key strands a van. See our van locksmith solutions.
My Vivaro cranks but won’t start — is it the key?
It can be. A de-synced transponder or an immobiliser fault will let the van turn over but not fire, which people often mistake for an engine problem. We diagnose the immobiliser and re-code the key on-site, whichever platform your Vivaro is on.
Can you gain entry to a Vivaro with a deadlock after a break-in?
Yes. Deadlocks make forced entry harder, which is exactly why they are fitted — but we use non-destructive methods to get in and can then cut and code a new key. If the van was broken into, see our stolen keys and broken key extraction services too.
