Regain Entry Into Your Toyota Proace

A Toyota Proace off the road is money lost. For a courier, a mobile trade or a fleet, the medium Proace is the business — so a lost, stolen or snapped key does not just cost a key, it costs the delivery run and the day’s work.

Here is the twist that catches people out: the Proace wears a Toyota badge, but it is a Stellantis van underneath, so it uses the Stellantis key system — not Toyota’s G-chip/H-chip smart keys. A dealer will still want the van recovered and a costly appointment; a general locksmith who reaches for Toyota tooling will get nowhere.

Lock City knows exactly what a Proace really is. As a mobile van locksmith we bring the dealer-level Stellantis software and the right HU83 blanks, come to your yard, depot or the roadside, and code the key on-site — no towing, no dealer wait. We also supply fleet and spare keys. Call 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.

Know Your Key

Toyota Proace Keys: Types & What You Need

The most important fact about a Proace key is what it is NOT: it is not a Toyota smart key. Knowing the generation tells us the blade, chip and software:

Proace Gen 1 (2013–2016)

  • Platform: a rebadged first-generation Citroën Dispatch / Peugeot Expert.
  • Blade: older PSA VA2 profile; Hitag2 (ID46) transponder, OBD-programmable.

Proace Gen 2 (2016–present, EMP2)

  • Blade: newer high-security HU83 laser blade.
  • Remote: flip (switchblade) remote as standard; keyless proximity on higher trims.
  • Transponder: Hitag2 / AES secure chip — coded with dealer-level Stellantis software, including all-keys-lost.

The sibling truth (the whole point)

The Proace wears a Toyota badge but IS a Stellantis van — mechanically the Citroën Dispatch and Peugeot Expert (and Fiat Scudo, and the 2019-on Vauxhall Vivaro). It uses the Stellantis HU83 key system, NOT the Toyota G-chip/H-chip you would find in a Yaris or RAV4. Any locksmith who treats a Proace like a normal Toyota is on the wrong system entirely.

Note: the VA2-to-HU83 change tracks the 2016 platform switch, and keyless availability varies by trim [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the blade and chip before we travel.

Which key does a Toyota Proace Van use?

Depending on the generation and trim, the Toyota Proace Van is fitted with the flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Toyota Proace FAQs

Toyota Proace Van Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

Does the Toyota Proace use a Toyota key or a Stellantis key?

A Stellantis key. The Proace is a rebadged Citroën Dispatch / Peugeot Expert, so it uses the Stellantis HU83 key system — not the Toyota G-chip or H-chip smart keys used in Toyota cars. We programme it with dealer-level Stellantis software. See our van key programming.

Can you programme a Proace key at the roadside?

Yes. Both the older VA2 Proace and the 2016-on HU83 Proace are cut and coded on-site by OBD — no recovery to a dealer and no days-long wait. Give us the reg and we will confirm the exact key type.

Is the Proace the same van as a Citroën Dispatch or Vauxhall Vivaro?

Yes. The Proace, Citroën Dispatch, Peugeot Expert, Fiat Scudo and the 2019-on Vivaro are the same EMP2 van with the same key system. Whichever badge is on the grille, we carry the right blank and chip.

My Proace has a keyless fob — can you replace it?

Yes. Higher-trim Proace vans use a keyless proximity fob, and we carry the blanks and current Stellantis software to code one at the roadside, including all-keys-lost.

Can you come to our depot to key a fleet of Proace vans?

Yes. We regularly attend depots, yards and sites to cut and programme spare or replacement keys across multiple vans in one visit. See our replacement van keys service.
