Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Toyota Aygo
Lost, snapped or stolen your Toyota Aygo key? The Aygo is a cheap, cheerful city car — but being locked out or immobilised still stops your day dead, and the key is not quite as simple as the car looks.
A Toyota dealer will typically want the Aygo recovered, an appointment days out, and a bill covering the key, the coding and the transport. A general key cutter can copy the blade but cannot code the transponder to the immobiliser, so the engine will not start. Because the Aygo was co-developed with Peugeot and Citroën, its key sits somewhere between a Toyota and a PSA job — you want a locksmith who knows both.
Lock City does. We come to you with the right blanks and software to cut and code an Aygo key — transponder or flip — to your immobiliser at the roadside, no towing and no dealer wait. Book a replacement key or key programming on 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Toyota Aygo Keys: Types & What You Need
The Aygo is a co-developed city car — the first two generations share their platform (and much of their key hardware) with the Peugeot 107/108 and Citroën C1, so an Aygo key is simpler and older-school than a modern hybrid Toyota. Here is the breakdown:
Aygo Mk1 (2005–2014)
- Platform: shared with the Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1 (the “B-Zero” city-car trio).
- Key: simple bladed transponder key; early base cars can be very basic, later ones add a remote.
- All-keys-lost: usually straightforward and roadside-programmable.
Aygo Mk2 (2014–2021)
- Platform: shared with the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1.
- Key: bladed transponder or flip (switchblade) key with a remote; no keyless smart system — this stays a simple, older-style key.
- Common jobs: worn flip blades and flat fob batteries mistaken for a dead key.
Aygo X (2021–present)
- Platform: now Toyota-only (TNGA-B), so it moves onto Toyota’s own newer key hardware; keyless entry is available on higher trims.
Note: exact key type by trim and whether your Aygo is transponder or flip varies by build [verify against your VIN]. Because the earlier Aygo shares parts with the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1, tell us your reg and we will confirm the exact blank and chip before we come out.

Depending on the generation and trim, the Toyota Aygo is fitted with the bladed transponder key, remote key with a separate blade, flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Toyota Aygo Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
How much is a replacement Toyota Aygo key in Bristol?
The Aygo is one of the cheaper Toyotas to re-key because it uses a simpler, older-style transponder or flip key rather than a keyless smart system. A spare is the cheapest tier; an all-keys-lost costs a little more. Give us your registration and we will quote the exact figure before we travel.
My Aygo shares parts with the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1 — does that matter?
It helps, actually. The first two Aygo generations were co-developed with the Peugeot 107/108 and Citroën C1, so we know the key hardware well from all three brands. We carry the right blanks and software for the whole trio, so we can cut and code your Aygo key in one visit.
My Aygo key turns but the remote does nothing — is the key dead?
Usually not. On the Aygo this is nearly always a flat fob battery or a worn micro-switch, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote far more cheaply than a new key, and re-cut a worn flip blade if needed.
I’ve lost every key to my Aygo — can you still help?
Yes, and on the Aygo it is usually one of the more straightforward all-keys-lost jobs because of the simpler key system. We generate, cut and code a fresh key to your immobiliser at the roadside. See our lost car keys service.
Does the newer Aygo X use a different key to the old Aygo?
Yes. The Aygo X (2021-on) moved onto Toyota’s own newer platform, so it uses more recent Toyota key hardware and offers keyless entry on higher trims, whereas the older Aygo shared its simpler key with the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1. Tell us the year and we will bring the right kit.
