Regain Entry Into Your Renault Scenic

A dead or damaged Renault Scenic key or keycard leaves the family going nowhere. Whether the keycard has stopped being recognised, a flip blade has given up, or the last key was lost or stolen, an immobilised Scenic is an MPV you cannot start and cannot afford to be without.

Like its Megane sibling, the Scenic uses Renault’s hands-free keycard — and that is exactly why a high-street key cutter cannot help. The immobiliser (UCH) will let a bad card open the door but never start the engine, and an all-keys-lost job needs the security PIN. The dealer route means recovering the Scenic, waiting for an appointment, and paying for the card, the coding and the transport.

Lock City is a Renault-focused mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct Hitag transponders and the keycard blanks your Scenic needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key or card and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every Scenic key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.

Renault Scenic Keys: Types & What You Need

The Scenic shares its key systems with the Megane of the same era, and it moved to the hands-free card early. Telling us the generation (or your reg) means we bring exactly the right blank, chip and software:

Scenic II (2003–2009)

  • Key: hands-free keycard (shared with Megane II) plus a bladed remote on base trims.
  • Transponder: Hitag2 (ID46), coded to the UCH.
  • Classic job: a worn card no longer detected, or the dash card-reader slot failing.

Scenic III (2009–2016)

  • Key: hands-free keycard common; bladed flip remote on entry cars.
  • Blade: VAC102 profile, or the emergency blade inside the card.

Scenic IV / Grand Scenic (2016–2022)

  • Key: hands-free keycard / keyless standard on most trims.
  • Transponder: Hitag AES (secure) — needs current software and the correct card blank.

The Scenic keycard jobs we see most

  • “Keycard not recognised”: usually a flat card battery, a worn card, or a card that has lost sync and needs re-pairing — not always a new card.
  • All-keys-lost, where we calculate the security PIN and code a fresh card at the roadside.

Note: keycard-vs-flip availability varies by generation and trim [verify against your VIN]. Our real Renault keycard not recognised case study covers a card fault like the Scenic’s — or tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type first.

Renault Scenic FAQs

Renault Scenic Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

Why has my Renault Scenic keycard stopped being detected?

It is the most common Scenic key fault. The hands-free card runs on a small battery and its electronics wear over the years, so it stops being detected or loses sync with the car. We can replace the card battery, repair or re-sync it, and only fit a new card if it has genuinely failed. See our Renault keycard case study.

Can you replace a Scenic or Grand Scenic key without going to Renault?

Yes. We cut and programme Scenic bladed keys, flip remotes and hands-free keycards at the roadside using dealer-level software, calculating the security PIN for all-keys-lost. No recovery to a dealer needed. See our Renault key programming service.

My Scenic uses a card that slots into the dash — can you replace it?

Yes. That is the Scenic II / III hands-free keycard. We can supply and code a replacement card, and diagnose a faulty card-reader slot if the card itself turns out to be fine.

I’ve lost all the keys and cards to my Scenic — what now?

We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we calculate the security PIN, produce a fresh card or key and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside, so the Scenic starts before we leave. More on our lost car keys page.

Does the keyless Scenic cost more to replace than a bladed key?

Generally yes. A hands-free keycard uses a secure Hitag AES chip and is a dearer part than an older bladed key, and it takes longer to programme. We carry both, so whichever Scenic you have we can sort it in one visit.
