Vauxhall Corsa Key Programming: What’s Involved and What to Expect

A modern Vauxhall Corsa key is not a cut-and-copy job. The Corsa is one of Britain’s best-selling small cars, so plenty of owners find out the hard way that getting a new or spare key means more than a blade at a key-cutting kiosk. The blade lets you into the car; it is the programming — marrying the key’s transponder chip to the car’s immobiliser — that actually lets you drive away.

This guide explains what Corsa key programming really involves, why the year of your Corsa changes the whole job, and what to expect when a locksmith comes out to do it.

Why a Corsa key has to be programmed at all

Every Corsa from the mid-2000s onward carries a transponder chip inside the key or fob. When you turn the ignition (or press start), the immobiliser looks for that chip’s unique code. No recognised code, no fuel or ignition — the engine simply will not fire, even though a freshly cut blade will still open the door and turn the barrel. Programming is the process of teaching the car to accept a new chip, and it is done electronically through the diagnostic (OBD) port.

The big Corsa divide: D/E versus F

This is the single most important thing to understand about Corsa keys, because it decides which tools, blade and chip the job needs. Vauxhall changed owners and platforms partway through the Corsa’s life:

  • Corsa D (2006–2014) and Corsa E (2014–2019): the GM/Vauxhall era. These use the HU100R internal-cut blade and a Hitag2 (ID46) transponder, with a GM-style body control module running the immobiliser. Most are programmable by OBD at the roadside, and the security data can usually be read on-site. Corsa E commonly runs a flip (switchblade) remote.
  • Corsa F (2019–present): a completely different car underneath — built on the Stellantis/PSA CMP platform it shares with the Peugeot 208. Different blade profile, a more secure transponder and a Stellantis-style immobiliser mean it needs PSA-capable equipment, not the old GM kit. Keyless entry and start are available on higher trims. Exact chip revision varies by build date and trim [verify against your VIN].

In other words, “a Corsa key” is really two different jobs. The same split runs right across the range — the Vauxhall Mokka moved from GM to Stellantis the same way — which is why telling us your registration matters before anything else.

Spare key versus all keys lost

What the programming involves also depends on whether you still have a working key:

  • Adding a spare: with one working key present, coding an extra key is the quicker job — the car is already “awake” to be programmed.
  • All keys lost: with no working key, we have to generate a fresh key from scratch, cut the blade to the car’s code and get the immobiliser to accept the new chip. It takes longer and is a bigger job — see our guide to a Vauxhall all-keys-lost situation and our lost car keys service.

What to expect on the day

  • We confirm the exact Corsa generation from your reg or VIN, so we arrive with the right blade, chip and software.
  • We cut the blade — HU100R on a D/E, or the Stellantis profile on an F.
  • We programme the key to your immobiliser through the OBD port, on your driveway or at the roadside.
  • We test that the car starts and the remote works before we leave, and the work is guaranteed.

On cost: there is no single Corsa price — a basic D/E spare, a Corsa E flip remote and a keyless Corsa F all sit at different tiers, and all-keys-lost costs more than a spare. We do not quote blind; our honest Vauxhall key cost guide explains the factors, and if you give us your reg we will confirm the exact figure before we travel.
