Regain Entry Into Your Kia

Lost, snapped or stolen your Kia key? Whether it is a Picanto or Rio city car, a Ceed, a Sportage or Niro crossover, or a seven-seat Sorento, a modern Kia is immobilised without a key that has been electronically coded to it — so a spare cut at a kiosk will open the door but never start the car.

The dealer route means recovering the Kia, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A general locksmith usually cannot help either, because on an all-keys-lost Kia the pivot is the immobiliser security code (PIN): without it, no new key can be married to the car. Newer smart-proximity Kias raise the bar again with secure AES chips that most tooling cannot authenticate.

Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith with the dealer-level software to read the immobiliser PIN and code a new Kia key — folding remote or smart proximity — to your car at the roadside. Because Kia is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, the same key and immobiliser know-how covers both marques. No towing, no dealer wait, every job guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Monday to Friday, 8am–5:30pm.

Know Your Kia Key

Kia Key Systems Explained

Kia’s line-up runs from small Picanto and Rio hatchbacks through the Ceed and ProCeed, up to the Sportage, Niro and Sorento SUVs and the EV6 — and which one you drive decides the key form, the chip and what an all-keys-lost job takes. Here is the honest breakdown across the Kia range.

Folding (flip) remotes — the earlier Kias

  • Older Picanto, Rio, first-generation Ceed and early Sportage use a folding/flip remote key with a transponder from the ID46 / Hitag2 family. We cut the blade and code the chip to the immobiliser at the roadside.

Smart proximity keys — GT-Line trims and the SUVs

  • The Sportage GT-Line, Niro and Sorento, plus the current Ceed and ProCeed, move to keyless smart proximity keys with push-button start, built around a more secure AES transponder. The flip-to-smart cut-over depends on the model and build date [verify against your VIN].

Kia Digital Key — the EV6 and e-Niro

  • The EV6 (Kia’s E-GMP electric SUV), the Niro / e-Niro and newer Sportage offer Kia Digital Key, letting a paired phone or smartwatch act as a key alongside the physical fob. We still supply and programme a real smart key — the phone feature does not replace it for an all-keys-lost.

The immobiliser PIN is the pivot

  • For all-keys-lost on any Kia, the job hinges on the immobiliser security code (PIN). With dealer-level kit we read or calculate it and then code a fresh key — which is exactly why a generic key cutter cannot do this.

Shared with Hyundai

  • Kia and Hyundai are one group (Hyundai Motor Group) and share key and immobiliser platforms, so a Kia Sportage and a Hyundai Tucson are close cousins under the skin. If your household runs one of each, we can usually help with both in a single visit.

Flat fob, not a dead key

  • A smart key that stops being detected is very often just a flat CR2032 battery — held against the start button it will normally still start. We carry batteries and can rule this out before anyone talks about a new key.

Not sure which you have? Tell us your registration and we will confirm whether yours is a flip or smart key, and what an all-keys-lost job involves, before we set off.
