Regain Entry Into Your Kia Ceed

A dead or damaged Kia Ceed key leaves you going nowhere. Whether the folding flip blade has finally given up, a key has been lost, or the last one was stolen, an immobilised Ceed is a car you cannot start and cannot afford to be without.

The dealer route means recovering the Ceed, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot rescue you either — the Ceed runs a Hyundai-Kia immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never cranks the engine, and an all-keys-lost job needs the car’s security PIN. You need someone who knows the Ceed key system generation by generation.

That is Lock City. We are a mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct Hyundai-Kia transponders and the blanks your Ceed needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every Ceed key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.

Kia Ceed Keys: Types & What You Need

Kia is part of the Hyundai Motor Group, so the Ceed shares its key and immobiliser systems with Hyundai models like the i30. Telling us the generation (or your reg) means we arrive with exactly the right blank, chip and software:

Cee’d Mk2 (JD, 2012–2018)

  • Key: folding flip (switchblade) remote with a Hyundai-Kia ID46-class transponder; a plain remote-and-transponder key on the most basic trims.
  • Note the spelling: this generation was badged “Cee’d” with an apostrophe — the same car, and the same key job.
  • All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside using the security PIN.

Ceed Mk3 (CD, 2018–present)

  • Key: folding flip remote as standard, with keyless smart proximity offered on higher GT-Line and GT trims, using a secure AES chip.
  • Body styles: hatchback, ProCeed shooting brake and XCeed crossover all share the same key architecture.
  • The classic Ceed job: a worn flip-switch spring so the blade will not stay out or fold in — we re-shell the key and transfer the electronics rather than sell you a whole new key.

Note: exact blade profile and the flip-vs-keyless split vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Give us your reg and we will confirm the exact key before we set off.

Kia Ceed FAQs

Kia Ceed Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

Why does my Kia Ceed flip key keep failing?

It is a common Ceed fault. The folding flip (switchblade) key has a small spring and micro-switches that wear out, so the blade stops springing out or the buttons stop working. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade — much cheaper than a brand-new coded key.

My car is badged “Cee’d” with an apostrophe — is that different?

No — “Cee’d” is just the earlier (2012–2018) spelling of the same car, later simplified to “Ceed”. The key job is identical. Tell us the year and we will bring the right flip key and transponder.

Can you replace a Ceed key without going to a Kia dealer?

Yes. We cut and programme Ceed keys at the roadside using dealer-level software and the car’s security PIN. There is no need to recover the car or book into a dealer. See our Kia key programming service.

I’ve lost all the keys to my Ceed — what happens now?

We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we read or look up the immobiliser PIN, generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to your car at the roadside, so the Ceed starts before we leave. More detail on our lost car keys page.

Does a keyless GT-Line Ceed cost more to replace?

Generally yes. A keyless Ceed uses a secure smart fob, which is a more expensive part than a standard flip key and takes longer to programme. We carry both types, so whichever Ceed you have, we can sort it in one visit.

Depending on the generation and trim, the Kia Ceed is fitted with the remote key with a separate blade, flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.
