The Hyundai Ioniq (2016–2022) was keyless-first from the start. Across the three variants — Ioniq Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and the battery-electric Ioniq Electric — most cars left the factory with a smart proximity key, so the job is nearly always a smart-fob one rather than a cut-and-turn key.

- Key: Hyundai smart proximity fob (keyless entry and push-button start) as standard on most trims; a mechanical emergency blade is hidden inside the fob for the door.
- Transponder: Texas Instruments / Hitag-family crypto chip paired to the immobiliser.
- Immobiliser PIN: like the wider Hyundai range, the Ioniq needs the car’s security code (PIN) to add or replace a key — we derive it by VIN with dealer-level / specialist tooling rather than sending you to a dealer.
- All-keys-lost: this is the PIN-by-VIN job — with every key lost we read the VIN, obtain the security code and programme a fresh smart key on-site. It takes longer than adding a spare, but there is no recovery to a dealer.
- Security: as a keyless car the Ioniq can be relayed — we recommend a Faraday pouch, keeping the spare away from the front door, and re-coding after any theft.

Why does a Hyundai Ioniq key need a PIN or security code?
Hyundai (like Kia across the wider group) protects the immobiliser with a security PIN, so a new key cannot simply be added without it. We derive that PIN from your VIN with dealer-level tooling, which is exactly what lets us do the job at the roadside instead of the car going to a dealer.
I’ve lost every key to my Ioniq — can you still help?

My Ioniq smart key stopped working — is it broken or just flat?
Very often it is just a flat CR2032 battery in the fob. If the car no longer detects the key, you can still start it by holding the fob against the start button (the car tells you where) — and we can replace the battery or repair a water-damaged fob for far less than a new coded key.
My keyless Ioniq fob was stolen — is the car at risk?
