Regain Entry Into Your Hyundai i30

A lost, broken or stolen Hyundai i30 key leaves you going nowhere. Whether the folding remote has finally worn out, a key has gone missing, or the last one was stolen, an immobilised i30 is a family hatchback you cannot start and cannot do without.

The dealer route means recovering the i30, waiting for a slot and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot rescue you either: the i30 runs the Hyundai immobiliser, so an uncoded key will open the door but never fire the engine, and all-keys-lost normally needs the vehicle’s security code first.

That is where Lock City comes in. We are a mobile auto locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the right secure transponders and the HY-series blanks your i30 needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key, retrieve the code where required and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every i30 key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.

Hyundai i30 Keys: Types & What You Need

The i30 has run through three generations, moving from a folding remote to keyless smart entry on the current car and the sporty i30 N. Hyundai shares this key system with Kia’s Ceed across Hyundai Motor Group, so the generation sets the job:

i30 Mk1 (FD, 2007–2012)

  • Blade: HY-series blade.
  • Key: separate remote plus transponder key, or an integrated remote head, with a Philips/NXP ID46 chip.

i30 Mk2 (GD, 2012–2017)

  • Key: HY-series folding (flip) remote as standard, ID46 transponder.
  • The classic i30 job: the folding hinge or micro-switch wears out and the blade will not stay out or fold in — we re-shell the key and transfer the electronics rather than sell a whole new key.

i30 Mk3 (PD, 2017–present)

  • Key: folding flip remote on lower trims; keyless smart proximity (Smart Key) on Premium, N-Line, the i30 Fastback and the i30 N, using a secure transponder.
  • All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable with current software and the security code.

Note: the folding-vs-keyless split on the Mk3 depends on trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type and whether a security code is needed before we come out.

Hyundai i30 FAQs

Hyundai i30 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

Why does my Hyundai i30 folding key keep failing?

It is the most common i30 key fault. The folding (flip) key has a hinge and micro-switches that wear out, so the blade stops springing out or the buttons stop working. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade — much cheaper than a brand-new coded key.

Can you replace an i30 key without going to a Hyundai dealer?

Yes. We cut and programme i30 keys at the roadside for the Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 using dealer-level software, with no need to recover the car or book a dealer appointment. See our key programming service.

Does a keyless i30 or i30 N cost more to replace?

Generally yes. A keyless Mk3 i30 uses a smart proximity fob, which is a more expensive part than a folding remote and takes longer to programme. We carry both types, so whichever i30 you have, we can sort it in one visit.

I’ve lost all the keys to my i30 — what happens now?

We treat it as an all-keys-lost: we retrieve the immobiliser security code, generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to the car at the roadside, so the i30 starts before we leave. See our lost car keys page.

My keyless i30 won’t detect the key — is the fob dead?

Often it is just a flat coin-cell battery in the smart fob. You can usually still start the car using the marked backup spot and the start button, and get in with the hidden emergency blade. If a new battery does not fix it, we can test and, if needed, replace the fob.
