VW Touran Keys: Types & What You Need
The Touran’s key system changed with the current model, so the generation matters for both cost and what all-keys-lost involves:
Touran Mk1 (2003–2015) — pre-MQB
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade.
- Transponder: Megamos Crypto (ID48) / Hitag2.
- Remote: flip (switchblade) remote key on most trims.
- All-keys-lost: OBD-programmable at the roadside with dealer-level kit.
Touran Mk2 (2015–present) — MQB
- Platform: MQB with IMMO5 and component protection — the same architecture as the Golf Mk7/Mk8 and the Tiguan.
- Transponder: Megamos AES; flip remote as standard, with keyless KESSY smart proximity on higher trims.
- Why it matters: MQB all-keys-lost needs dealer-level component-security data, so it takes longer and costs more than adding a spare — a strong reason to have a spare cut while you still have a working key.
Note: the Mk1-to-Mk2 (pre-MQB to MQB) change lands around 2015, and keyless availability varies by trim [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm whether yours is the older Megamos MPV or a component-protected MQB Touran.

Why is a new (2015-on) Touran key more involved than an older one?
The Mk2 Touran is on the MQB platform with component protection, so a replacement key needs dealer-level online immo data rather than a simple cut-and-copy. We are equipped for it, but a spare cut now while you still have a working key is cheaper than an all-keys-lost.
I’ve lost every key to my Touran — can you still help?

My Touran flip key won’t spring out — do I need a new key?
