Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Vauxhall Insignia
Lost your Vauxhall Insignia key, or had a keyless fob stolen? As a big executive-class car that does the motorway miles and the family runs, an immobilised or locked-out Insignia stops your day dead.
A main dealer will want the Insignia recovered, an appointment you may wait days for, and a bill that stacks the key, the coding and the transport together. A generic locksmith cannot programme it at all — the Insignia runs GM’s encrypted immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never starts the engine. And on the many Insignias fitted with Keyless Open and Keyless Start, a lost or stolen proximity fob is a security problem, not just an access one.
Lock City fixes both. As a mobile auto locksmith we carry the dealer-level GM software and the correct smart-key blanks to code a new Insignia key — flip or keyless — to your immobiliser at the roadside. Lost a keyless fob to theft? We can programme a fresh key and disable the missing one so it can no longer start the car. Vauxhall Insignia Keys: Types & What You Need
Unlike the Corsa and Astra, the Insignia stayed a General Motors car for its whole life — it was discontinued in 2022 before Vauxhall’s Stellantis switch reached it. So the key system is consistent, but the trim matters for keyless:
Insignia A (2008–2017) & Insignia B (2017–2022) — GM throughout
- Blade: HU100R internal-cut laser blade.
- Transponder: Philips/NXP Hitag2 (ID46) on the GMLAN immobiliser.
- Remote: HU100R flip (switchblade) remote as standard.
- Keyless: Keyless Open / Keyless Start proximity smart fob on higher trims (Elite, Elite Nav, Ultimate) — a slim card-style or fob-style key you never take out of your pocket [verify against your VIN].
- All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside; keyless AKL takes a little longer than a spare.
The jobs we see most on the Insignia
- Worn flip-blade springs that stop the key folding out cleanly.
- A “dead” keyless fob that is really just a flat CR2032 battery — a two-minute fix, not a new key.
- Keyless fobs lost or stolen, where the car needs a new fob and the old one disabling.
Note: exact keyless-vs-flip fitment depends on the trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type and price before we set off.

Vauxhall Insignia Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Vauxhall Insignia is keyless — can you still make a new key?
Yes. The Insignia’s Keyless Open / Keyless Start proximity fob is one we programme regularly, and we carry both the blanks and the GM software to code one to your car at the roadside — including keyless all-keys-lost as well as spares.
My keyless Insignia fob was stolen — is the car at risk?
Potentially, yes — a stolen keyless fob can start the car, and keyless systems can be relayed. We can programme a new fob and de-register the stolen one so it will no longer unlock or start the Insignia. See our stolen car keys service.
Is the Insignia a GM or a Stellantis car for key purposes?
It is General Motors throughout. The Insignia was discontinued in 2022 before Vauxhall’s Stellantis switch reached it, so every Insignia — A and B, 2008 to 2022 — uses the GM HU100R key system. That makes it a well-understood, roadside-programmable job.
My Insignia key still turns but the remote is dead — new key needed?
Usually not. It is almost always a flat CR2032 battery or a worn micro-switch in the flip remote, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key, and re-shell a worn flip key.
Can you do an all-keys-lost on an Insignia at the roadside?
Yes. Whether it is a flip key or a keyless fob, we generate and code a brand-new key to your Insignia’s immobiliser on-site, so there is no recovery to a dealer. See our lost car keys service.
