Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Toyota Yaris
Lost, snapped or stolen your Toyota Yaris key? It stops the whole day — the school run, the commute, the shift you cannot be late for. And a modern Yaris key is not the five-minute cut-a-copy job many people expect: every Yaris key carries a chip that has to be married to the car electronically before the engine will start.
Take the Yaris to a Toyota dealer and you are usually looking at recovering the car (an immobilised Yaris will not start), a booking days away, and a bill that stacks the key, the programming and the recovery. A high-street key cutter cannot rescue you either — the Yaris immobiliser will not accept a key that has not been coded to it, and newer hybrid Yaris models use a Smart Key System that needs current, dealer-level tooling.
Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith that knows the Toyota key system inside out. We come to you with the right transponders and smart-key blanks for your exact Yaris, cut the blade on-site and code the key to your immobiliser at the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait. Every Yaris key replacement and key programming job is guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Monday to Friday, 8am–5:30pm.
Toyota Yaris Keys: Types & What You Need
Knowing which Yaris you have tells us exactly which key, chip and tool the job needs — and whether it is a quick spare or a specialist all-keys-lost. The Yaris spans the whole Toyota chip story, so the generation matters:
Yaris XP90 (2005–2011)
- Blade: TOY43 blade.
- Transponder: early Texas 4C / G-type chip; a bladed transponder key with a separate or integrated 2–3 button remote.
- All-keys-lost: generally roadside-programmable with the right kit.
Yaris XP130 (2011–2020)
- Key: bladed transponder / flip key on most trims, using the Toyota G-chip (Texas DST80); keyless Smart Key System offered on higher trims and hybrids.
- Blade: TOY43 / TOY48-family high-security profile depending on build.
- All-keys-lost: G-chip cars are programmable with dealer-level tooling; smart-key AKL takes longer.
Yaris XP210 (2020–present)
- Key: hybrid-focused generation — keyless Smart Key System (proximity) is common.
- Transponder: H-chip (Texas DST-AES) secure smart key.
- Why it matters: the H-chip needs dealer-level authentication, so an all-keys-lost on a newer hybrid Yaris is a specialist job, not a cheap copy — worth keeping a coded spare.
Note: the exact G-chip-to-H-chip and bladed-to-smart-key cut-over depends on the build date and trim [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the chip and key type before we come out.

Depending on the generation and trim, the Toyota Yaris is fitted with the bladed transponder key, remote key with a separate blade, flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Toyota Yaris Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
How much is a replacement Toyota Yaris key in Bristol?
It depends on the generation and whether it is a spare or all-keys-lost. A bladed G-chip key for an older Yaris is the cheapest tier; a keyless hybrid smart key for a newer Yaris, or an all-keys-lost, costs more because of the H-chip fob and the dealer-level programming involved. Give us your registration and we will quote the exact figure before we travel.
Does my Yaris use a G-chip or an H-chip?
As a rule of thumb, older bladed Yaris keys use the Toyota G-chip (DST80), while the newer hybrid Yaris (2020-on) and later smart keys use the H-chip (DST-AES). The H-chip needs dealer-level authentication, which is why it is more involved to replace. Tell us your reg and we will confirm which chip your Yaris carries.
My Yaris key still turns but the buttons do nothing — do I need a new key?
Usually not. On the Yaris this is almost always a flat fob battery or a worn remote micro-switch, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key. If a smart Yaris will not detect the fob at all, a battery swap is the first thing to try.
I’ve lost every key to my Yaris — can you still help?
Yes. All-keys-lost is a common Yaris job. On older G-chip cars we cut and code a new key to your immobiliser at the roadside; on newer H-chip hybrids it is a specialist job but still one we handle. See our lost car keys service for how it works.
Is a hybrid Yaris smart key harder to replace than an old bladed one?
Yes. The hybrid Yaris uses the Smart Key System with an H-chip, so it needs current dealer-level tooling and the correct smart-key blank rather than a simple cut-and-code. We carry both, so whichever Yaris you have we can sort it — but it is exactly why a coded spare is worth having.
