Regain Entry Into Your Range Rover Evoque

Lost your Range Rover Evoque key, or had a keyless fob stolen? On a premium JLR SUV this is more than a nuisance — the Evoque is immobilised without a coded smart key, and because it is a prime relay-theft target, a missing fob is a security problem as much as an access one.

For the Evoque, the Land Rover dealer answer is typically a recovery, an appointment some way off, and a single charge stacking the smart key, the coding and the transport. Most high-street locksmiths cannot do JLR all-keys-lost, so knowing exactly what your Evoque permits is the sensible first move.

Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith who handles JLR smart keys properly. We come to you, supply the right keyless fob and code it to your Evoque at the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait. Lost a fob to theft? We can programme a fresh key and disable the missing one so it can no longer start the car. See our lost key and stolen key services, or call 07967 097 899, Monday to Friday, 8am–5:30pm.

Know Your Key

Range Rover Evoque Keys: Types & What You Need

The Evoque has been keyless-led from launch, so security matters as much as the key itself. Knowing which generation you have (or your reg) tells us the fob, the software and the theft advice the job needs:

Security first — the Evoque is a relay-theft target

  • Keep the fob in a Faraday pouch: JLR keyless fobs transmit continuously, and thieves relay that signal from your hallway to the car on the drive. A signal-blocking pouch kills the attack.
  • A lost or stolen fob is a security event: it can still start the car. We re-code the Evoque so the missing fob is disabled — do not treat a lost keyless key as just an access problem.
  • Back it up: store the spare well away from the front of the house, and consider an aftermarket immobiliser or tracker on top of the factory system.

Evoque Gen 1 (L538, 2011–2018)

  • Blade: HU101 emergency blade concealed inside the fob (for the door if the battery dies).
  • Key: JLR keyless smart proximity fob on most cars; some very early / base cars carried a bladed remote [verify against your VIN].
  • All-keys-lost: programmed with dealer-level JLR software; a genuine specialist job, not a copy-a-key.

Evoque Gen 2 (L551, 2019–present)

  • Key: keyless smart proximity as standard, tied to the KVM; petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid (P300e PHEV) share the same key architecture.
  • Security: later JLR models moved toward more relay-resistant keyless tech, but disciplined fob storage still matters [verify against your VIN].
  • All-keys-lost: high-value dealer-level programming; on the very newest JLR builds AKL can be more restricted — we will tell you honestly before we travel.

Note: the exact bladed-vs-keyless split on early Gen 1 cars and the security features on newer builds vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the fob type and the job before we set off.

The Range Rover Evoque at a glance

The Evoque compact SUV spans the first generation (L538, 2011–2018) and the second (L551, 2019 on). It is a well-known relay-theft target, and some trims offer the Activity Key waterproof wristband alongside the normal fob.

  • Keyless: proximity smart key; a Faraday pouch and re-coding after any theft both matter [verify against your VIN].
  • Activity Key wristband on some cars — tell us if yours has one so we account for it.

The Evoque scenarios we see

Evoques come to us after relay-theft scares and lost keys on the school run, where the owner wants the missing fob disabled as much as a new one made. Activity Key wristband cars need that extra device accounting for.

  • Relay-theft worry after a fob went missing.
  • Activity Key wristband owner wanting a spare.
  • Keyless fob lost, original still available.
Range Rover Evoque FAQs

Range Rover Evoque Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

My Range Rover Evoque is keyless — can you still make a new key?

Yes. The Evoque uses a JLR keyless smart proximity fob tied to the car’s Keyless Vehicle Module, and we carry the blanks and the dealer-level software to programme one at the roadside, including all-keys-lost. It is a specialist, high-value job — done properly and guaranteed.

My Evoque keyless fob was stolen — is the car at risk?

Yes — a stolen keyless fob can still start the car, and the Evoque is a known relay-theft target. We programme a new fob and de-register the missing one so it can no longer unlock or start the car. Treat it as a security event: see our stolen car keys service.

How do I stop my Evoque being stolen by relay attack?

Keep the fob in a Faraday (signal-blocking) pouch, store the spare well away from doors and windows, and consider an aftermarket immobiliser or tracker. Relay theft works by extending the fob’s signal from inside your home to the car, so blocking that signal is the single most effective step.

I’ve lost every key to my Evoque — what happens now?

We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we generate and code a fresh smart fob to your Evoque at the roadside with dealer-level JLR software, so you are not paying for recovery to a dealer. See our lost car keys service.

My Evoque won’t detect the key — is the fob dead?

Often it is just a flat CR2032 battery in the smart fob. You can usually still start the car by holding the fob against the marked spot and using the start button, and get in with the hidden emergency blade. If a new battery does not fix it, we can test and, if needed, replace the fob.
