A lost or dead Mitsubishi ASX key leaves you going nowhere. The ASX is one of Britain’s popular compact crossovers, often a busy family’s only car — so a lost, broken or stolen key does not just cost a key, it costs the school run, the commute and the day.
The dealer route means recovering the ASX, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot help either — the ASX runs a Mitsubishi immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never fires the engine, and keyless ASX trims use the FAST-Key smart system that needs current dealer-level tooling.
That is where Lock City comes in. We are a mobile auto locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct transponders and the right blanks your ASX needs. We come to you, cut or supply the key and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every ASX key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Mitsubishi ASX Keys: Types & What You Need
The ASX had an unusually long production run in one basic form, then switched platform entirely — so the key can differ sharply. Telling us the year (or your reg) means we bring the right blank, chip and software:
ASX (2010–2023) — the long-run crossover
- Blade: MIT8 / MIT11 blade.
- Key: bladed transponder / flip key on base trims with a Texas 4D-family / ID46-class chip; FAST-Key smart proximity entry & start on higher trims, with a hidden emergency blade.
- All-keys-lost: bladed cars are roadside-programmable; FAST-Key AKL takes longer than adding a spare.
ASX (2023–present) — the Renault-based car
- Platform: the new ASX is a rebadged Renault Captur, so it uses Renault’s key architecture rather than the old Mitsubishi system [verify against your VIN].
- Why it matters: this is a genuine trap — a 2023-on ASX needs Renault-family tooling, not the old Mitsubishi kit, which is exactly the kind of thing a general locksmith can get wrong.
Note: the exact keyless-vs-bladed split on the long-run car, and the Renault-platform details on the 2023-on car, vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Give us the reg and we will confirm the key system before we set off.
Mitsubishi ASX Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Is a 2023 Mitsubishi ASX key different to the older one?
Yes — significantly. The 2023-on ASX is a rebadged Renault Captur, so it uses Renault’s key architecture rather than the older Mitsubishi FAST-Key system. That changes the blank, chip and tooling entirely, which is why telling us the year matters. Send us your reg and we will confirm which system your ASX uses.
How much is a replacement Mitsubishi ASX key in Bristol?
It depends on the year and whether it is bladed or keyless, spare or all-keys-lost. An older bladed transponder key is the cheaper tier; a FAST-Key smart fob or an all-keys-lost costs more because of the fob and programming involved. Give us your registration and we will quote the exact figure before we travel.
My ASX key buttons have stopped working — is the key dead?
Usually not. On the ASX this is nearly always a flat fob battery or a worn micro-switch rather than a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for far less than a new key, and re-cut or re-shell a worn blade if needed.
I’ve lost all the keys to my ASX — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside so the ASX starts before we leave. More detail on our lost car keys page.
Can you programme a FAST-Key ASX at the roadside?
Yes. Keyless ASX trims use Mitsubishi’s FAST-Key smart system, and we carry the blanks and current software to code one on-site, including all-keys-lost. See our key programming service.

Which key does a Mitsubishi ASX use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Mitsubishi ASX is fitted with the flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

- Smart proximity (keyless) key
