A lost or dead Mazda2 key leaves you going nowhere. Whether an older Mazda2 key has finally worn out, a key has been lost, or the last one was stolen, an immobilised Mazda2 is a car you cannot start and cannot afford to be without.
The dealer route means recovering the Mazda2, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot help either — every Mazda2 runs an immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never fires the engine. And the popular 2007–2014 Mazda2 has a quirk worth knowing: it shares its platform and key architecture with the Ford Fiesta of the same era, so the right approach is not always obvious to a general locksmith.
That is where Lock City comes in. We are a mobile auto locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct transponders and the right blanks your Mazda2 needs — Mazda-era or Ford-era. We come to you, cut or supply the key and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every Mazda2 key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Mazda2 Keys: Types & What You Need
The Mazda2 name covers two very different key eras — including one built on Ford underpinnings. Telling us the generation (or your reg) means we arrive with the right blank, chip and software:
Mazda2 DY (2003–2007)
- Blade: MAZ24 blade.
- Key: bladed transponder key or remote-head key with a Texas 4D-family chip.
Mazda2 DE (2007–2014) — the Ford-Fiesta-era car
- Platform: this generation shares Ford’s B-car platform with the Fiesta Mk6 of the same era, so the key and immobiliser architecture is Ford-derived.
- Transponder: Texas 4D63 (Ford PATS-family) in a flip / remote key.
- Why it matters: knowing it is a Ford-era Mazda2 tells us straight away which chip, blank and software to bring — a general locksmith may not spot the crossover.
Mazda2 DJ (2015–present)
- Key: back to Mazda’s own SkyActiv platform — flip key with a DST80-class chip on most trims, Advanced Keyless smart proximity on higher trims, with a hidden emergency blade.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable; keyless AKL takes longer.
Note: the exact chip and whether your Mazda2 is bladed, flip or smart-key depends on year and trim [verify against your VIN]. Give us the reg and we will confirm the key system before we set off.

Which key does a Mazda2 use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Mazda2 is fitted with the bladed transponder key, flip (switchblade) remote key, integrated remote-head key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Mazda2 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Is a 2007–2014 Mazda2 key really a Ford key?
In effect, yes — the 2007–2014 DE Mazda2 shares its platform and immobiliser architecture with the Ford Fiesta of the same era, using a Ford-family Texas 4D63 transponder. That is genuinely useful to know, because it tells us exactly which chip, blank and software to bring. Tell us your reg and we will confirm your generation.
How much is a replacement Mazda2 key in Bristol?
It depends on the generation and whether it is a spare or all-keys-lost. An older bladed or Ford-era flip key is the cheaper tier; an Advanced Keyless smart fob on a newer DJ Mazda2, or an all-keys-lost, costs more. Send us your registration and we will confirm the exact figure before we travel.
My Mazda2 key buttons have stopped working — is the key dead?
Usually not. On the Mazda2 this is nearly always a flat fob battery or a worn micro-switch rather than a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for far less than a new key, and re-cut or re-shell a worn flip blade if needed.
I’ve lost all the keys to my Mazda2 — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we generate a fresh key, cut the blade and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside so the Mazda2 starts before we leave. More detail on our lost car keys page.
Can you programme a Mazda2 key without going to a dealer?
Yes. We cut and code Mazda2 keys at the roadside for every generation using dealer-level software — there is no need to recover the car or book into a dealer. See our key programming service.
