Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Seat Ibiza
A dead or damaged Seat Ibiza key leaves you going nowhere. Whether the flip blade has finally given up, a key has been lost, or the last one was stolen, an immobilised Ibiza is a car you cannot start and cannot afford to be without.
Sending the Ibiza to a Seat dealer normally involves recovering the supermini, queuing for an appointment and settling a combined charge for the flip remote, the coding and the transport. An ordinary locksmith cannot programme the MQB immobiliser, so even a perfectly cut blade leaves the Ibiza unlocking but not starting.
That is Lock City. We are a VAG-savvy mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct transponders and the HU66 blanks your Ibiza needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key and code it to your immobiliser on-site — no towing, no dealer delay, and every Ibiza key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Seat Ibiza Keys: Types & What You Need
The Ibiza has run through two quite different key eras. Telling us the generation (or your reg) means we arrive with exactly the right blank, chip and software:
Ibiza Mk3 / Mk4 (2002–2017) — pre-MQB
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade.
- Transponder: Megamos Crypto (ID48) / Hitag2.
- Remote: flip (switchblade) remote on most trims; a plain transponder key on early base cars.
- The classic Ibiza job: the flip-switch spring fails and the blade will not stay out or fold in. We re-shell the key and transfer the electronics rather than sell you a whole new key.
Ibiza Mk5 (2017–present) — MQB
- Platform: MQB-A0 with IMMO5 and component protection — the same small-car family as the VW Polo and Škoda Fabia Mk4.
- Transponder: Megamos AES; flip remote as standard, keyless KESSY on higher trims (FR, Xcellence).
- All-keys-lost: still roadside-doable, but the MQB component protection means it needs dealer-level immo data and takes longer than adding a spare.
Note: the pre-MQB to MQB change lands around the 2017 Mk5 launch, but the exact chip and any keyless option vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm whether yours is the older Megamos car or a component-protected MQB Ibiza.
The Seat Ibiza at a glance
The Ibiza (Mk5, 2017 on) is Seat’s supermini on the A0 MQB platform. It almost always uses a bladed flip remote rather than keyless, which keeps a spare on the cheaper end of the range.
- Blade: HU66 flip remote; keyless is rare on the Ibiza [verify against your VIN].
- FR trims aside, most Ibizas are a straightforward bladed cut-and-code job.
The Ibiza scenarios we see
Ibizas are often first cars for younger drivers, so we see dropped keys, lost keys at festivals, and cars bought cheaply with a single flip remote. The bladed key keeps a spare affordable, which suits the audience.
- A young driver’s only key lost at an event.
- Cheap used buy with one key.
- Flip remote hinge cracked from pocket wear.

Spare keyWhich key does a Seat Ibiza use?
Depending on the generation and trim, the Seat Ibiza is fitted with the bladed transponder key, flip (switchblade) remote key and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.
- Bladed transponder key
- Flip (switchblade) remote key
- Smart proximity (keyless) key
Seat Ibiza Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Why does my Seat Ibiza flip key keep failing?
It is the single most common Ibiza key fault. The flip (switchblade) key has a small spring and micro-switches that wear out, so the blade stops springing out or the buttons stop working. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade — much cheaper than a brand-new coded key.
Can you replace an Ibiza key without going to a Seat dealer?
Yes. We cut and programme Ibiza keys at the roadside for pre-MQB and MQB cars using dealer-level VAG software. There is no need to recover the car or book into a dealer. See our car key programming service.
Is a new (2017-on) Ibiza harder to make a key for?
A little, yes. The Mk5 Ibiza is on the MQB-A0 platform with component protection, so a replacement key needs dealer-level online immo data rather than a simple cut-and-copy. We are equipped for it, but it is worth having a spare cut now while you still have a working key — it is cheaper than an all-keys-lost.
I’ve lost all the keys to my Ibiza — what happens now?
We treat it as an all-keys-lost job: we generate a fresh key, cut the HU66 blade and code it to your immobiliser at the roadside, so the Ibiza starts before we leave. More detail on our lost car keys page.
How much does an Ibiza key cost to replace?
It depends on the generation: a spare flip key for an older Megamos Ibiza is the cheapest tier, while a keyless MQB key or an all-keys-lost costs more because of the part and the programming. Send us your registration and we will confirm the exact cost before we travel.
