Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Seat Ateca
Lost your Seat Ateca key, or had a keyless fob stolen? On a family SUV that does the nursery run, the dog walks and the weekend away, being locked out or immobilised grinds the whole household to a halt.
A main dealer will want the Ateca recovered, an appointment days away, and a bill that stacks the key, the coding and the transport. A generic locksmith cannot programme it at all — and with the Ateca there is an extra sting: it is an MQB SUV with component protection, and keyless SUVs like this are a known relay-theft target, so a stolen or lost keyless fob is a security problem, not just an access one.
Lock City fixes both. As a mobile VAG specialist we carry the dealer-level software and the correct smart-key blanks to code a new Ateca key — flip or keyless — to your immobiliser at the roadside. Lost a keyless fob to theft? We can programme a fresh key and disable the missing one so it can no longer start the car. Seat Ateca Keys: Types & What You Need
The Ateca was Seat’s first SUV and launched in 2016 on the MQB platform, so its key system is modern from the start — which is exactly why up-to-date VAG software matters here:
Ateca (2016–present) — MQB
- Blade: HU66 internal-cut VAG blade (emergency blade inside the smart fob on keyless cars).
- Platform: MQB with IMMO5 and component protection — the same architecture as the VW Tiguan/T-Roc, Škoda Karoq and Škoda Kodiaq.
- Transponder: Megamos AES; flip remote on entry trims, keyless KESSY smart proximity common on FR, Xcellence and Xperience.
- Security: the keyless system is a relay-theft target. We recommend a Faraday pouch, keeping the spare well away from the front door, and re-coding after any theft so the old fob is dead.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable, but only with current software and the component-security data — keyless AKL takes longer than adding a spare.
Note: exact keyless availability varies by trim and build date, and the 2020 facelift carries small changes [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the software and blank needed before we set off.
The Seat Ateca at a glance
The Ateca (2016 on) is Seat’s compact SUV on the A MQB platform. Flip remotes are standard, with KESSY keyless on the sportier FR and Xcellence trims.
- Blade: HU66 flip remote; KESSY keyless on FR and Xcellence [verify against your VIN].
- Cupra Ateca models share the hardware — tell us the badge and trim so we bring the right kit.
The Ateca scenarios we see
Atecas arrive as compact family SUVs and FR daily drivers, where a KESSY fob has been misplaced or a Cupra Ateca owner wants a spare matched to the exact trim. Being MQB, coding is quick once we know the badge.
- FR KESSY fob misplaced at home.
- Cupra Ateca needing a trim-matched key.
- Family SUV with a chewed remote.

Seat Ateca Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Seat Ateca is keyless — can you still make a new key?
Yes. The Ateca uses a keyless KESSY smart fob with a secure Megamos AES chip, and we carry both the blanks and the current VAG software to programme one to your car at the roadside. We handle keyless all-keys-lost as well as spares.
My keyless Ateca fob was stolen — is the car at risk?
Potentially, yes — a stolen keyless fob can start the car, and keyless SUVs are a relay-theft target. We can programme a new fob and de-register the stolen one so it will no longer unlock or start the Ateca. See our stolen car keys service.
How can I stop my keyless Ateca being stolen?
Keep the fob in a Faraday (signal-blocking) pouch, store the spare away from doors and windows, and consider an aftermarket immobiliser. After any theft or lost keyless fob, have the key re-coded so the missing one is disabled.
Why is a new Ateca key more involved than an older SUV key?
The Ateca is on the MQB platform with component protection, so a replacement key needs dealer-level online immo data, not just a cut-and-copy. We are equipped for it, but it is worth having a spare programmed now while you still have a working key.
Can you programme a flip-key Ateca as well as a keyless one?
Yes. Entry-trim Atecas use an HU66 flip key rather than keyless KESSY, and we cut and code both types on-site. Whether you have a flip key or a keyless smart fob, we can sort it in a single visit.
