The Sprinter uses encrypted FBS3/FBS4 keys — a dealer-level job. We carry the software and blanks to code them on-site rather than a Mercedes booking.

One key across a working van is a gamble. We supply and programme spare and fleet Sprinter keys at your yard, depot or site.
Spare & fleet keysRegain Entry Into Your Mercedes Sprinter
A Mercedes Sprinter off the road is money walking out the door. The Sprinter is the backbone of countless businesses — couriers, trades, ambulances and motorhomes — so a lost, stolen or snapped key does not just cost a key, it costs the round, the delivery and the day.
The dealer route is the worst option for a working van: recovery to the branch, an appointment that suits them, and a bill stacking the key, the coding and the transport while your Sprinter sits idle. And a general locksmith genuinely cannot help here — the Sprinter runs Mercedes’ encrypted FBS immobiliser, which needs dealer-level software and the correct blanks to marry a key to the van. This is an expertise-led, high-value job, and we will tell you so plainly.
Lock City is a mobile van locksmith that carries the FBS software and Sprinter blanks to code a new key at your yard, depot or the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait. We also handle deadlocks and fleet spare keys so a single failure never strands a van. Call 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Mercedes Sprinter Keys: Types & What You Need
The Sprinter’s key system is defined by Mercedes’ FBS (immobiliser) generation. Knowing your year tells us the software, blank and time the job needs — and it is a genuinely more involved job than most vans:
Sprinter W906 (2006–2018)
- Blade: HU64-style Mercedes blade in a fixed-head remote key.
- Security: FBS3 encrypted immobiliser — keys are cryptographically married to the van, so an uncoded key is useless.
- All-keys-lost: a specialist job requiring FBS3 tooling; not something a generic key cutter can do.
Sprinter W907 / VS30 (2018–present)
- Security: FBS4 — the most secure generation, often effectively dealer-online for all-keys-lost; spare keys are the realistic on-site win.
- Keyless: Keyless-Go proximity available on higher-spec and later vans.
Sibling note: the pre-2017 VW Crafter is a rebadged Sprinter and shares this same Mercedes FBS key system — so if you run an older Crafter, this is the key platform you have. (The 2017-on Crafter is a completely different MAN TGE van.)
Note: exact FBS3-vs-FBS4 cut-over and keyless availability depend on build date and spec [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type, the software and whether it is a spare or an all-keys-lost before we travel. See our van key programming service.

Depending on the generation and trim, the Mercedes Sprinter Van is fitted with the bladed transponder key, remote key with a separate blade and the smart proximity (keyless) key. Tell us your registration and we will confirm which one your vehicle carries before quoting.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Why is a Mercedes Sprinter key more expensive than an ordinary van key?
Because the Sprinter uses Mercedes’ encrypted FBS immobiliser. The key is cryptographically married to the van, so it needs dealer-level software and the correct blank rather than a simple cut-and-copy. FBS4 (2018-on) vans are especially involved for all-keys-lost. We are upfront that this is a high-value, expertise-led job — and still cheaper and faster than recovering the van to a dealer.
Can you really programme a Sprinter key without going to Mercedes?
In the vast majority of cases, yes. We carry FBS software and Sprinter blanks to code keys at your yard, depot or the roadside. On the newest FBS4 vans, all-keys-lost can sometimes need a dealer-online step — we will tell you honestly before we travel. See our van key programming service.
My old Crafter is really a Sprinter — can you key it too?
Yes. The pre-2017 VW Crafter is a rebadged Sprinter and uses the same Mercedes FBS key system, so we treat it exactly like a Sprinter of the same age. If yours is a 2017-on Crafter it is a different (MAN TGE) van — see our VW Crafter page.
Can you come to my depot to key a fleet of Sprinters?
Yes. We regularly attend yards and depots to supply and programme spare and replacement Sprinter keys across a fleet in one visit — the cheapest way to make sure no single lost key ever takes a van off the road. See our replacement van keys service.
My Sprinter is a motorhome base — does that change anything?
Not for the key system — a Sprinter-based motorhome uses the same FBS key as the equivalent panel van, so we programme it the same way. We just need clear access to the OBD port and the cab, which the habitation conversion sometimes tucks away.
