Dacia All Keys Lost: What It Really Involves

Losing one Dacia key is an inconvenience. Losing every key is a different order of problem — what the trade calls “all keys lost” (AKL). The good news is that a Dacia is one of the more forgiving cars for this, because it shares well-understood Renault immobiliser technology. Here is what actually happens, and why it need not mean a main-dealer bill.
Why all-keys-lost is harder than a spare
When you still hold a working key, adding a spare is quick: the car already trusts a key, and the new one is simply registered alongside it. With all keys lost, the car trusts nothing — so a new key has to be created and authorised from scratch. To do that, the immobiliser has to be read directly, which is the extra work that makes it a bigger job.
The Renault-style immobiliser (the UCH)
A Dacia is built on Renault mechanicals, so its security runs through a Renault-style UCH — the Unité Centrale Habitacle, or body control unit. With no working key present, a specialist reads the immobiliser data from the UCH, generates a fresh transponder-coded key, cuts the matching VA2 or NE73 blade and codes it to the car so the engine will start. On most Dacias this can be done at the roadside without recovering the car.
- Conventional flip-key Dacias: the most common case — read the immobiliser, code a new flip key, usually at the roadside.
- Hands-free Keyless Dacias (higher-trim Duster and Jogger): a little more involved, as the keyless fob is a more complex part [verify against your VIN].
- Newer Hitag AES cars: use a more secure transponder (PCF7961M), but are still specialist-programmable on most builds [verify against your VIN].
Why the main-dealer route is slow and dear
A dealer will typically have the immobilised Dacia recovered (it will not start without a coded key), book it in days out, and bill the key, the coding and the transport together. A good mobile specialist can do the same immobiliser work at your location on most cars — no recovery, no wait — and, because Dacia is a value marque, keep it to a lower tier than a premium car.
What it costs
All-keys-lost is always a higher tier than a spare because of the immobiliser work and the new part, and the exact figure depends on the model, whether it is a flip key or a hands-free Keyless fob, and the transponder generation. There are no fixed prices — give us your registration and we confirm the cost before we travel.
Sort your Dacia key with Lock City
We handle Dacia all-keys-lost at the roadside on most cars — see our lost car keys and Dacia key programming services, or the Dacia key replacement hub. It is a common job on the Duster and Sandero. Because a Dacia shares Renault key technology, we can usually confirm on your reg whether yours is a roadside job before anyone spends a penny.
