The Ford Transit Connect Key Services We Offer
Transit Connect Entry
Keys locked in the cab or the load area? We open the Transit Connect with non-destructive tools — no drilling, no damage — and get you working again fast.
Lost Your Van Keys?
A van off the road is money lost. Lost or stolen Transit Connect keys? We attend and programme a replacement at the roadside — no towing to a dealer.
Van Key Programming
We cut HU101 flip keys and code Ford PATS transponders for the Mk1 and Mk2 Transit Connect to your immobiliser using dealer-level software.
Spare & Fleet Keys
One key across a working van is a risk. We supply spare and fleet keys for Transit Connects at your yard, depot or site for far less than the dealer.
Regain Entry Into Your Ford Transit Connect
A Ford Transit Connect off the road is money walking out the door. For a sole trader or a small fleet the Connect is the business — so a lost, stolen or snapped key does not just cost a key, it costs the delivery, the call-out and the day’s work.
The dealer route is the worst of all worlds for a working van: recovery to the branch, an appointment that suits them not you, and a bill that stacks the key, the coding and the transport while your Connect sits idle. A high-street key cutter cannot help either — the Ford Transit Connect runs Ford’s PATS immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never starts the engine. And there is a Connect-specific catch: the newest one is not really a Ford key at all (more on that below).
Lock City is a mobile van locksmith that comes to your yard, depot or the roadside. We cut the blade, code the key to your immobiliser on-site and get you moving — no towing, no lost day. We also supply spare and fleet keys so a single failure never takes a van off the road. Call 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Ford Transit Connect Keys: Types & What You Need
The single most important question for a Transit Connect is: which generation is it? The first two are Ford through and through, but the 2024 van is a completely different animal. Tell us the year (or your reg) and we arrive with exactly the right kit.
Transit Connect Mk1 (2002–2013)
- Blade: HU101 high-security laser blade (very early vans can carry the older Tibbe/FO21 profile [verify against your VIN]).
- Transponder: Ford PATS with a Texas 4D63 / ID63 chip.
- Remote: plain transponder key on base vans; a separate or integrated remote on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside — no modules to remove.
Transit Connect Mk2 (2013–2023) — Focus / C1 platform
- Underneath: this Connect moved onto the Ford C1 (Focus/C-Max) car platform, so it drives and keys like a Focus of the era.
- Key: HU101 flip (switchblade) remote with a Ford PATS ID63 / Hitag Pro transponder.
- Keyless: push-button keyless start / KeyFree smart entry offered on higher trims and later build dates [verify against your VIN].
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable by OBD with dealer-level Ford software.
Transit Connect Mk3 (2024–present) — a rebadged VW Caddy
- The key disambiguation point: the current Transit Connect is built by Volkswagen and is essentially a badge-engineered VW Caddy. It uses a VW key, blade and immobiliser under the skin — NOT a Ford PATS system.
- What that means for you: it is programmed as a Volkswagen, with VW tooling and blanks, not with Ford software. If you have a 2024-on Connect, tell us — we treat it as a VW-based van, which is a different job to any earlier Connect.
Bottom line: a pre-2024 Transit Connect is a genuine Ford PATS key, while a 2024-on Connect is really a VW Caddy key wearing a Ford badge. Give us the reg or the year and we will confirm the exact key, chip and price before we set off.

Spare keyFord Transit Connect Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Is the new 2024 Ford Transit Connect the same key as my old one?
No — and this is the big one. The 2024-on Transit Connect (Mk3) is a rebadged Volkswagen Caddy, so it uses a VW key and VW immobiliser, not the Ford PATS system your older Connect had. We programme it as a Volkswagen with VW tooling. The Mk1 and Mk2 (up to 2023) are true Ford HU101 PATS keys. Tell us the year and we will confirm which yours is. See our car key programming service.
Can you programme a Transit Connect key at the roadside, or does it have to go to Ford?
At the roadside for the Mk1 and Mk2 — both are Ford PATS vans we cut and code on-site by OBD, including all-keys-lost, with no recovery to a dealer. The 2024-on VW-based Mk3 is also mobile-programmable, just as a Volkswagen rather than a Ford. See our van locksmith solutions.
I’ve lost every key to my Transit Connect — can you still help?
Yes. All-keys-lost is one of our most common van jobs. We generate and code a brand-new key to your immobiliser at the roadside, so your Connect starts before we leave and you are not paying for recovery. See our lost car keys service.
My Transit Connect key turns but the buttons do nothing — do I need a new key?
Usually not. On the HU101 flip key this is almost always a flat CR2032 fob battery or a worn micro-switch, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key, and re-shell a worn flip key rather than sell you a whole new one.
Can you come to my yard to cut spare keys for a fleet of Transit Connects?
Yes. We regularly attend yards, depots and sites to cut and programme spare or replacement keys across several vans in one visit — the cheapest way to make sure no single lost key ever strands a van. See our replacement van keys service.
