The Ford S-Max Key Services We Offer
S-Max Vehicle Entry
Keys locked inside the S-Max with the kids’ seats still in? We open your seven-seater with non-destructive tools — no drilling, no broken glass.
Lost Your S-Max Keys?
Lost or had every S-Max key stolen? We come to you and programme a new key to the car at the roadside, including keyless smart fobs.
S-Max Key Programming
From HU101 flip keys to keyless smart fobs, we code S-Max keys to your Ford PATS immobiliser using dealer-level equipment.
Spare S-Max Keys
A family seven-seater with one key is a risk. We cut and programme a spare S-Max key at your home or workplace for less than the dealer.
Regain Entry Into Your Ford S-Max
A dead or lost Ford S-Max key strands the whole family. The S-Max is the sporty seven-seater that does the school run, the sports kit and the weekend away — so an immobilised or locked-out S-Max is not just your problem, it is everyone’s.
The dealer route means recovering the S-Max, waiting for an appointment and paying for the key, the coding and the transport. A high-street key cutter cannot help either — the S-Max runs Ford’s PATS immobiliser, so an uncoded key opens the door but never starts the engine. And on the many S-Max cars fitted with keyless entry and start, a lost or stolen smart fob is a security question as well as an access one.
That is Lock City. We are a Ford-focused mobile locksmith carrying the dealer-level software, the correct transponders and the HU101 blanks your S-Max needs. We come to you, repair or replace the key — flip or keyless — and code it to your immobiliser on-site, no towing, no dealer delay, and every S-Max key replacement guaranteed. Phone 07967 097 899, Mon–Fri 8am–5:30pm.
Ford S-Max Keys: Types & What You Need
The S-Max stayed a Ford PATS car throughout its life — it shared its underpinnings with the Mondeo and Galaxy — so the key system is consistent Ford, but the generation and trim decide flip-versus-keyless:
S-Max Mk1 (2006–2015) — Mondeo / EUCD platform
- Underneath: built on the Ford EUCD platform it shared with the Mondeo and Galaxy, so it keys like a Mondeo of the era.
- Blade: HU101 high-security laser blade.
- Key: HU101 flip (switchblade) remote with a Ford PATS ID63 transponder.
- Keyless: Ford Power / keyless entry and start offered on later and higher trims (Titanium X) [verify against your VIN].
- All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside.
S-Max Mk2 (2015–2023) — keyless-heavy
- Key: keyless smart proximity (KeyFree) is standard-ish across the range, using a Hitag Pro (ID49) fob; a flip remote appears on entry trims.
- Blade: HU101 emergency blade hidden inside the smart fob for the door if the battery dies.
- Security: as a keyless family car, the smart fob can be relayed — we recommend a Faraday pouch, keeping the spare away from the front door, and re-coding after any theft.
- All-keys-lost: roadside-programmable with current Ford software; keyless AKL takes a little longer than adding a spare.
Note: exact keyless-vs-flip fitment on the Mk1, and chip revisions on the Mk2, vary by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Give us the reg and we will confirm the exact key, chip and price before we set off.

Spare keyFord S-Max Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
My Ford S-Max is keyless — can you still make a new key?
Yes. The Mk2 S-Max (and higher Mk1 trims) use a Ford keyless smart fob, and we carry both the blanks and the current software to programme one to your car at the roadside — including keyless all-keys-lost as well as spares.
Why does my S-Max flip key keep failing?
On the Mk1 and entry Mk2 cars it is a common fault. The flip (switchblade) key has a small spring and micro-switches that wear out, so the blade stops springing out or the buttons stop working. We can re-shell the key and transfer your existing electronics and blade — much cheaper than a brand-new coded key.
My keyless S-Max fob was stolen — is the car at risk?
Potentially, yes — a stolen keyless fob can start the car, and keyless systems can be relayed. We can programme a new fob and de-register the stolen one so it will no longer unlock or start the S-Max. See our stolen car keys service.
Can you replace an S-Max key without going to a Ford dealer?
Yes. We cut and programme S-Max keys at the roadside for both the Mk1 and Mk2 using dealer-level software, including all-keys-lost, so there is no need to recover the car or wait for a dealer slot. See our car key programming service.
Is the S-Max the same key as a Ford Galaxy or Mondeo?
Broadly, yes — the S-Max shares its Ford EUCD platform and PATS key system with the Galaxy and Mondeo of the same era, so it is the same style of HU101 job. The exact fob and trim can differ, so tell us your reg and we will confirm before we travel. See our lost car keys service.
