Regain Entry Into Your Fiat 500

Lost, snapped or stolen your Fiat 500 key? It stops everything — the commute, the school run, the shift you cannot be late for. And “Fiat 500 key programming” is one of the most-searched key jobs in the country, because a modern 500 key is not a five-minute cut-a-copy job.

Take the 500 to a main dealer and you are usually looking at recovering the car (a 500 is immobilised without a coded key), a booking days away, and a bill that stacks the key, the programming and the recovery. A high-street key cutter cannot help either: the 500 runs a coded immobiliser that will reject any key not electronically married to the car.

Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith that knows the Fiat 500 inside out. We come to you with the dealer-level software and the right transponders for your exact 500, cut the SIP22 blade on-site and code the key to your immobiliser at the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait. Every 500 key replacement and key programming job is guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Monday to Friday, 8am–5:30pm.

Fiat 500 Keys: Types & What You Need

Knowing which Fiat 500 you have tells us exactly which key, chip and tool the job needs. The big split is older Fiat versus the newer, more secure cars:

Fiat 500 (2007–2015)

  • Blade: SIP22 (the classic Fiat/Abarth profile).
  • Transponder: Megamos (ID48) on most cars, with early examples on Philips Hitag2 (ID46).
  • Remote: a fixed-head three-button remote key on Lounge and Sport trims; a plain transponder key on base Pop cars.
  • All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside on the vast majority of cars.

Fiat 500 facelift (2015–2023)

  • Blade: SIP22, with a more secure Megamos transponder generation.
  • Remote: three-button remote-head key as standard; the Abarth 595/695 shares the same key platform.

Fiat 500e (2020–present, electric)

  • Platform: all-new EV — no relation to the petrol 500.
  • Key: keyless smart proximity fob with a hidden emergency blade; a newer, more secure system that needs current software.

Note: the exact transponder generation and the petrol-versus-500e split vary by build date and trim [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key type and software before we set off.

Fiat 500 FAQs

Fiat 500 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered

How much is a replacement Fiat 500 key in Bristol?

It depends on the year and whether it is a spare or an all-keys-lost. A spare remote key for a 2007–2015 petrol 500 is the cheapest tier; a facelift key, a 500e smart key or an all-keys-lost job costs more because of the fob and the programming involved. Give us your registration and we will quote the exact figure before we travel — no surprises.

Can you programme a Fiat 500 key at the roadside, or does it have to go to Fiat?

At the roadside. The vast majority of petrol Fiat 500s are programmed on-site by OBD with our dealer-level software. There is no need to recover the car to a dealer or wait days for an appointment.

My Fiat 500 key still turns but the buttons do nothing — do I need a new key?

Usually not. On the 500 this is almost always a flat CR2032 fob battery or a worn micro-switch, not a failed transponder. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key.

I’ve lost every key to my Fiat 500 — can you still help?

Yes. All-keys-lost is one of our most common 500 jobs. We generate and code a brand-new key to your immobiliser at the roadside, so you are not paying for recovery. See our lost car keys service for how it works.

Is the electric Fiat 500e a different key job?

Yes. The 500e is an all-new electric car with a keyless smart proximity fob, so it needs the latest software and the correct smart-key blank — different from the petrol 500. We carry both, so whichever 500 you have, we can sort it in one visit.
