The Cupra Key Services We Offer
Cupra Vehicle Entry
Keys locked inside your Cupra, or an emergency blade snapped in the door? We gain non-destructive entry to any Cupra — no drilling, no broken glass, no damage to the car.
Lost All Your Cupra Keys?
Every Cupra key lost or stolen? All-keys-lost on a Cupra means coding a fresh key to the MQB (or MEB) immobiliser — high-skill work. We come to you and code a new key without a dealer recovery.
Cupra Key Programming
Bladed HU66 transponder keys and full KESSY keyless fobs — we cut HU66 blades and code Cupra keys to your immobiliser using current VAG dealer-level software.
Spare Cupra Keys
A programmed spare is far cheaper than an all-keys-lost. We supply and code a spare Cupra key at your home or work while you still hold a working one.
Regain Entry Into Your Cupra
Lost, damaged or had a Cupra key stolen? Cupra is SEAT’s standalone performance marque, and its cars are not a cut-and-copy job — the key is electronically married to the car through the immobiliser and, on keyless cars, the KESSY system, so the wrong help can cost you days and money before you even learn how the job really has to be done.
We cover the range: the Cupra-only Formentor coupe-crossover, the Leon hot hatch and ST estate, the performance Ateca SUV, and the all-electric Born — the MQB petrol and hybrid cars and the MEB-based EV alike.
Take a Cupra to a main dealer and you are usually looking at recovering the car (it is immobilised without a coded key), an appointment days away, and a bill stacking the key, the coding and the transport. But a general locksmith is often no better: what the job actually involves depends on the platform and the KESSY setup. A spare cut while you still hold a working key is straightforward; an all-keys-lost means coding a brand-new key to the immobiliser — dealer-level VAG work most locksmiths cannot do.
Lock City is a Cupra-literate mobile auto locksmith carrying current VAG software and the right HU66 blanks and Megamos AES transponders. We read your registration, tell you honestly whether yours is a roadside key programming job or a genuine all-keys-lost case, and quote before we travel — no towing, no wasted visits. Every Cupra key replacement we take on is guaranteed. Call 07967 097 899, Monday to Friday, 8am–5:30pm.
Cupra Key Systems Explained
Cupra sits on VW Group underpinnings, so its key and immobiliser systems are shared VAG technology — but the platform your car uses is the single biggest factor in what a replacement costs and whether it can be done away from a dealer. Here is the honest picture:
Blade & key form
- Blade: the Cupra range uses the HU66-profile blade [verify against your VIN]. On keyless cars a mechanical emergency blade hides inside the KESSY fob for when the battery dies or the electronics fail.
- Bladed transponder key: a switchblade/flip remote on lower trims, cut to the HU66 profile with a Megamos AES transponder inside.
- KESSY keyless: Cupra’s keyless entry and start is common across the sporty range, so a lost keyless fob is a security event, not just an access one.
MQB platform (Formentor, Leon, Ateca)
- The petrol and plug-in-hybrid Cupras share VW Group’s MQB platform with cars like the Golf and SEAT Leon — HU66 blades and Megamos AES transponders [verify against your VIN].
- The immobiliser uses VAG software codes — most keys can be coded at the roadside with the right dealer-level kit; the very newest cars can be more restricted [verify against your VIN].
MEB platform (the electric Born)
- The Born is the electric model, built on VW Group’s MEB platform (sibling of the VW ID.3) — so its proximity key and setup can differ slightly from the MQB cars [verify against your VIN].
- All-keys-lost on the newest MEB EV can be more restricted than an older MQB car [verify against your VIN].
- Keyless is a relay-theft consideration on any KESSY-equipped Cupra — Faraday storage and re-coding after a theft both matter.
The honest bit: the MQB cars and the MEB Born differ, and only your VIN confirms which platform and key your car sits on [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm your immobiliser setup and the realistic route before anyone spends a penny. Cupra Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
Can you replace a Cupra key without going to a main dealer?
In most cases, yes. We cut and code Cupra keys at the roadside for the MQB cars — Formentor, Leon and Ateca — using current VAG dealer-level software, so there is no recovery to a dealer and no waiting days for an appointment. The exception is some of the newest cars, including the MEB-based Born, where all-keys-lost can be more restricted; we tell you honestly which yours is before we travel. See our Cupra key programming service.
I’ve lost every key to my Cupra — is that a bigger job?
Yes. An all-keys-lost on a Cupra means coding a brand-new key to the immobiliser from scratch — far more involved than adding a spare while you still hold a working key. It is high-skill VAG work, but on most MQB Cupras we can still do it at the roadside without a dealer. See our lost car keys service.
How much does a replacement Cupra key cost?
It depends on the model, the platform and whether it is a spare or an all-keys-lost. A spare bladed key for an MQB car is the cheapest tier; a KESSY keyless fob or an all-keys-lost costs more because of the part and the programming. We never guess a figure blind — give us your registration and we will confirm the exact price before we travel. See our car key replacement service.
My Cupra key still turns but the buttons or keyless entry don’t work — do I need a new key?
Usually not. On most Cupras this is a flat fob battery or worn buttons, not a failed transponder. KESSY faults are often the fob battery or an aerial rather than the key itself. We can test, replace the battery or repair the fob for a fraction of a new key. See our broken car key service.
Is my keyless Cupra at risk of relay theft?
Like any KESSY keyless car, yes — Cupras are a known relay-theft target. Keep the fob in a Faraday pouch, store the spare away from the front of the house, and after any theft have the car re-coded so the missing key is disabled. If a fob has been stolen, see our stolen car keys service.
