Spare keysRegain Entry Into Your Citroën C1
Lost, snapped or stolen your Citroën C1 key? It stops the daily grind dead — the commute, the college run, the quick shop that suddenly is not quick at all. The C1 is a cheap, cheerful city car, so people are often shocked that replacing the key is not a cheap, cheerful high-street cut.
Take the C1 to a main dealer and you are looking at recovering the car (it is immobilised without a coded key), a booking days away, and a bill that stacks the key, the programming and the recovery together. A general key cutter cannot rescue you either: the C1 runs a Hitag2 immobiliser, so a blade that is not electronically married to the car will open the door but never start the engine.
Lock City is a mobile auto locksmith that knows the PSA / Stellantis city cars. Because the C1 is the simplest, cheapest tier in the range, it is usually one of the most affordable keys we do. We come to you, cut the VA2 blade on-site and code the key to your immobiliser at the roadside — no towing, no dealer wait. Every C1 key replacement and key programming job is guaranteed. Citroën C1 Keys: Types & What You Need
The C1 was co-developed with the Toyota Aygo and Peugeot 108 and built at the shared Kolín plant in the Czech Republic, so it uses a straightforward PSA key system with no keyless complication. Here is the real breakdown:
C1 Gen 1 (2005–2014)
- Blade: VA2 external-cut blade (the classic older Citroën profile).
- Transponder: Philips/NXP Hitag2 (ID46) chip.
- Remote: plain transponder key on base cars; a two-button remote on higher trims.
- All-keys-lost: programmed by OBD at the roadside — no modules to remove.
C1 Gen 2 (2014–2021)
- Blade: VA2 blade continues on this shared Toyota/Peugeot platform.
- Transponder: Hitag2 (ID46); no keyless / proximity option on the C1.
- All-keys-lost: still roadside-programmable with the right PSA software.
The jobs we see most on the C1
- A “dead key” that is really just a flat CR2032 battery in the remote — a two-minute fix, not a new key.
- A worn or bent VA2 blade that no longer turns cleanly in the door or ignition.
- Single-key households where the only key is lost, turning a cheap spare into an all-keys-lost job.
Note: the C1 has no keyless option, which keeps it the cheapest Citroën key tier — but exact remote type varies by trim and build date [verify against your VIN]. Tell us your reg and we will confirm the key before we come out.

Citroën C1 Key Replacement — Your Questions Answered
How much is a replacement Citroën C1 key in Bristol?
The C1 is one of the cheapest keys we do because it uses a simple VA2 blade and a Hitag2 chip with no keyless system. A spare transponder or remote key is the lowest tier; an all-keys-lost job costs a little more for the programming. Give us your registration and we will quote the exact figure before we travel.
Can you programme a C1 key at the roadside, or does it have to go to Citroën?
At the roadside. Both the 2005–2014 and 2014–2021 C1 are programmed on-site by OBD with our dealer-level PSA software. There is no need to recover the car to a dealer or wait days for an appointment.
My C1 key turns but the buttons do nothing — do I need a new key?
Usually not. On the C1 this is almost always a flat CR2032 remote battery, not a failed transponder — and the blade still starts the car regardless. We can replace the battery or repair the remote for a fraction of a new key.
I’ve lost every key to my C1 — can you still help?
Yes. All-keys-lost is a common C1 job and, because the car is the simplest tier, one of the more affordable ones. We generate and code a brand-new key to your immobiliser at the roadside, so you are not paying for recovery. See our lost car keys service.
Is the C1 the same key as a Toyota Aygo or Peugeot 108?
Mechanically they are close cousins — the C1, Aygo and 108 were built together at the same plant and share a lot. But the transponder data and dealer software differ by marque, so we always programme it as a Citroën using your reg to confirm the exact key.
