Škoda is where Volkswagen Group tech reaches its keenest price, so the surprise is often how modern the security is under a value-brand badge — and how much later some Škodas moved to it than their VW and Audi cousins. The generation is what decides a quick roadside job from a dealer-level one:
The blade: HU66
- Almost every modern Škoda uses the HU66 internal-cut blade (newer cars use a higher-security HU66 variant), cut on a Lishi HU66. A tired flip-key spring is the everyday Škoda repair — we re-shell and transfer the electronics rather than sell a whole new coded key.
The Octavia led, the Fabia lagged
- Octavia III (from 2013): one of the first Škodas onto MQB, so it took IMMO5 component protection (Komponentenschutz) early. The Octavia vRS is the same story with KESSY keyless on top.
- Fabia: here’s the real Škoda quirk — the Fabia Mk3 (2014–2021) stayed on the older PQ platform with a Megamos/Hitag2 (ID48) immobiliser long after the Octavia had gone MQB. Only the Fabia Mk4 (2021-on) finally moved to the MQB-A0 platform and component security [verify against your VIN].
- Why it matters: two Škodas of a similar age can need completely different tooling — a pre-MQB Fabia is a straightforward roadside OBD job, while a same-year Octavia may need dealer-level component data.
The big SUVs and saloons
- Superb (B8, 2015-on), Kodiaq (2016-on) and Karoq: all MQB with IMMO5 component protection and Megamos AES / Hitag AES chips. KESSY keyless-go is common on higher trims (SE L, Sportline, L&K) and uses a proximity smart key.
- All-keys-lost: with every key gone we need the full security/component data, so it takes longer than a spare — but we still handle the vast majority at the roadside.
