Ford Transit security architecture evolved across three generations, each introducing distinct immobiliser protocols, lock mechanisms, and programming requirements. Mk6 Transits (2000–2006) use Tibbe 6-cut locks with PATS 2/3 and Texas Instruments 4D 40-bit transponders. Mk7 Transits (2006–2014) feature high-security Tibbe locks with PATS 4 and Texas Carbon ID63 chip with 80+ bytes for newer Ford models. Mk8 Transits (2016–present) use laser-cut HU101/HU198 keys with PATS 5 and Texas Carbon ID63 chip with 80+ bytes for newer Ford models.
Each generation requires specific diagnostic equipment, key blanks, and programming procedures. Lock City maintains licensed Ford IDS/FDRS access, genuine and aftermarket key blanks, and current security code database subscriptions for all Transit generations. Starting with the early Transits to the latest MK8’s tho incode/outcode protocols are needed. This is done in the background whether using dealer level or aftermarket tools.
From late 2016, Ford changed the transponder chip to an ID47/49 hi tag pro transponder chip but still using the HU101 which runs to present day. However proximity keys, although still using the HU101 blade, these are internal cuts rather than external cuts of the 101, which is commonly known as HU198, which runs to present day.
